Jase619 Posted December 12, 2018 Share The book says that you should drive slower when road conditions demand it. So there is no need for signs, as YOU should look at the blind rise and say to yourself "what if" Same with new road rules, it is your responsibility to find out and familiarise yourself with all new rules and that is what irritates me about motorists that uses the excuse "i did not know" And like I said before, we are not discussing what people normally do like your reference to soccer moms. We are talking about what is the road rule and what is not. Just because someone does something does not make it ok / recommended etc. Haha, no where did I say or infer that illegal acts that are common place are okay or recommended. Eliminating the what ifs and normal behaviour of people in a discussion like this is kind of narrow minded. As we all know what the law says, but we ignore it. So working in a lawful society where everyone obeys the rules per the book, where punishments are handed out for transgressions, would lead to the cycling that you are describing, ie. riding in the middle of the road on a blind rise, being safe and acceptable to do. That is unfortunately not the society that we find ourselves in, you can preach the book and what the law says till the cows come home, it's not going to change society as no one really seems to care about the rules or their fellow South Africa. Presumably due to the lack of repercussions. But by all means, keep telling people that they should make use of their right to ride in the middle of the road, I am sure it's gonna work out well for them. . . Puncture Kid Posted December 12, 2018 Share Well generally if you do what you want WITHIN the law, then there is a GOOD chance that you will not be irritating anyone else...... Can you tell me why that is a bad attitude? Do what you want within the law? What action that is within the LAW will be detrimental to other people? If you really cannot figure out the answer to your own question. Then you are part of the problem.

Pure Savage Posted December 12, 2018 Share Actually, my post was not referring to those in particular. Using your phone while driving is illegal. I was responding to another poster's comment that he can do anything he likes as long as it is within the law. To be honest that is a really shite attitude. It is actually a very common South African attitude. Everyone for himself. Shite attitude according to??? If someone is within the law and doing so for their safety, other road users should respect that. There is no harm being done to the other road user. Other road users should not need to 'respect that'.
Andreas_187 Posted December 13, 2018 Share Give me an example?Sounds like the guy that does 60km/h in the right lane on a highway. He can't understand why everyone is hooting him

DieselnDust Posted December 13, 2018 Share Again, I am asking for an excample where you can do that? Ok, driving at 120km/hr in the right hand lane on a freeway in a 120km/hr zone and never giving way to faster traffic

Other road users should not need to 'respect that'.I didnt say drive like a twat I said, doing so for safety reasons. Why do we sit happily in car traffic like knobs going 15km/h but have a fanny wobble when have to do 40km/h behind a cyclist?

Quagga Posted December 13, 2018 Share Regulation 323(5) states: “Where the driver of a motor vehicle which is being driven in the right-hand traffic lane or in the traffic lane furthest to the right on a freeway (hereinafter referred to as the first vehicle) becomes aware that the driver of another motor vehicle (hereinafter referred to as the second vehicle) intends to overtake the first vehicle, the driver of the first vehicle shall steer that vehicle to a lane to the left of the one in which he or she is driving, without endangering himself or herself or other traffic or property on the freeway, and shall not accelerate the speed of his or her vehicle until the second vehicle has passed.” Regulation 323(6) then goes on to state: “For the purposes of subregulation (5) the driver of the second vehicle may make the driver of the first vehicle aware that he or she intends to overtake the first vehicle by giving the driver thereof a visible signal by means of flashing the headlights of his or her vehicle.” Here is a link for you to look at the act, then search for the above wording . Skubarra Posted December 13, 2018 Share I ask about 3 moms on my commute each morning to stop using their phones as my kids ride on the road and would hate for them to murder them. They look a little upset but put the phone down. I ride past 4 schools on way to work, hence why so many moms. Yes it does add 7km to my 12km route. I can only imagine its a "little upsetting" for them when a cyclist threatens to murder them! I commend you & Quagga for fighting a losing battle, my experience is that it is only getting worse. If I had to confront & hoot to every person on a phone on my way to work I would literally be on my hooter constantly and the reaction I usually get is different to yours - it is more like a shrug or a middle finger with a"wtf is your problem?!?" added.
