First and second running mixed wheel sizes

And all the weekend warriors rush out and buy a fox 49 and a 29 inch wheel coz it's cool to run mixed wheel sizes now....

Comparing  us plebs to these guys is like comparing an Uber eats delivery guy to Valentino Rossi.

FULL AGREE ...... Good luck to Rossi keeping up in city traffic to an Uber Eats delivery person!

Good race that was - nice and close in the girls and boys. I am not sure RBTV get their camera positions right - you didn't  seem to get a good feel for the track, the gnar or the steepness. They could do more I reckon.

I fooked up the fantasy league. I had a good feeling about Loic's chances this year and popped him in my team. Then I had second thoughts and went for a spread with Bulldog, Wilson and Atwill. Atwill didnt qualify and my biggest error - thinking I had put the Saracen Matt Walker in my team - sure I clicked the Saracen Team guy but ended up with the Pivot oke, who got 0. Epic fail. Tahnee did her thing so that was some consolation...

Interesting  points: Gwin is best on very short tracks eg like Losinj where he won straight out last year. Somehow he doesnt look right on a 29er for some reason. I'm not sorry he didnt win - I want a fair fight with Greg over the most wins. Rooting for Greg at Fort Bill.

I think Spaz have thrown the budget into the DH team - their suspension set up tech is amazing and Loic looked smoother than anyone down that track. I think he and Finn will be up there this year.

The run of the day for sheer craziness was Hart. Such a fun rider to watch. Loic made it look easy in comparison.

Bring on the next one.

Jeepers guys.. Way to write the oke off. Do you know who finished after him in qualies? Danny Hart... Remind me what position he finished yesterday?

When you're not protected and you have an off.. It's gonna hurt your position. Plus he was riding a little slower than normal because he wasn't protected. Just one of those things. Fort William he will be back with a vengeance

true about hart, but hart could afford to trundle down the hill after his little off because he was protected. Going slower cos you are not protected makes zero sense to me. splain?

I've already been told I may not buy a new fork for my Enduro :-)

Yes exactly. On TV, Greg said when the conditions changed to wet, he went out carefully as he usually does because of the conditions. He admitted that this was probably the wrong tactic because it leads to lower concentration and crashes. Which is exactly what happened. Makes sense to me.

very true about Loic looking very unfussed while riding. Would be fantastic if it was mostly the suspension, cos then we can all upgrade at some point ;)

But perhaps its the combination of his riding style+the suspension setup. In comparison, Finn was getting heavily bucked in the compresions and rock gardens. I'm assuming the suspension tech and setup guidance is shared between the team mates, which leaves riding style as the main differentiator.

There's another vid of Loic during a training/Fox promo vid. Watch his head during a slalom section: dead still and travelling in  straight line despite the bike and his body riding the snake.

I agree its far more rider than bike. I'm sure the info is shared, but I got the impression from one of Finn's videos that they each had a set up/data acquisition bike. Perhaps its a question of experience - Loic knows what works better than Finn and arrives at a perfect set up for him more easily while Finn is still thatshing around...

Agreed. that's more logical.

BBBRRUUUUNNNNIIII has always been a super smooth rider that always goes much faster than it "looks" like he is going

Can someone edit it and put Loic's head on it? :P

So is this the time to open the different wheel size debate seeing as Pos 1 and 2 was running 29/27.5 front and rear?

Honestly I do not think there is much too it as both Danny and Loic are smaller folks. I know one of Loic's big gripes with 29er was he could not hang over the back as much as his ass would be roasted.

I think this has a lot more to do with bike size/fit to rider than pure speed and rollover obstacles arguments. Sure they have scientific merit.

What are your thoughts?
