Please help. I am running sram nx eagle 1 x 12 with 32t chain ring. I would like to go 34t chain ring but am considering 34t oval.

1) Anyone can justify the effort and money (existing 32t brand new about 200 km but spin too much top end)

2) Brands, SRAM expensive, Absolute Black or Cssix, any comments by people who know. I am flooded with different theories, none the same ???

Thank you.

Rode with a 34T oval chainring for years on XT with an 11-42 cassette. Never needed or wanted extra gears

But now moved on to my new bike with 32T round chainring on GX Eagle with 10-50 cassette.  The 32T chainring is just too small and the shifting does not come close to that of XT

Hi

The climbing shouldnt be an issue I have a 50/11 cassette, worse case I get stronger but spinning is the issue, when doing the odd road ride , even long jeep tracks run out of top end quickly.

With only 200km one have to wonder to what extent you have pushed your limits on longer and steaper rides .....

Granted, we have no idea of your typical trail.

Around here there are just way too many hills.  After a few hours in the saddle, a 50 and 34 and a steep incline may just be nasty combination ....

Should you go this route - Evobikes has a wide range of chain rings, both standard and oval.

I run a 34t rotor on my Rex crank with 9-46t e-thirteen cassette.

No issue of running out of gears.

I have a 36 round csixx on my hardtail and the quality is good.

I would go oval when this one needs replacing, I found my rhythm to be better with an oval

Hi, Thanks for your input. I rode Ballito area in December and the hills there are extreme and I found in fact i had too much power on the 50 and bike wants to flip over.  I am pretty strong on hills, the spinning on top end is my concern. for example 8 km cycle with 275 el gain pretty unusual for my style too. I mostly do the trails around Jhb and outrides farm roads etc, so no hectic climbing ever.

I ride a 32T Absolute Black (replaced my Sram Eagle 32T) and find I dont generally spin or run out of gears but at least have the climbing ability for big climbs like in the Barberton Challenge etc...For that one I so nearly went 34T and thank my lucky stars I stayed with 32. But then I am a heavy oke at 102 kg's....Absolute Black all the way, they use the best milling techniques in Europe, nothing local comes close.

Hi All

I am going to go with the Rapide 34 oval. Once done I will post my findings here fyi.

Thanks for the input.

You won't be sorry! Rapide the best service and backup I have experienced and I am an oval fan (34) despite what some think [emoji6]
