So, I've lived here for four years now, but it's my first argus this year and wondering best way to organise myself on the day - I'm in 5B I think, it's like a 8:30ish start, so, getting to and parking for for the argus, any tips? Is the N2 in going to be fine? What time should I plan on leaving?

Thanks!

Last year was my 1st and I stay in the southern suburbs my wife dropped me in the lower main road by the good hope centre and I cycled to the start it's only 900m away

I started 9.45 and there was no traffic issues

This year I'm starting 5J so 9.08am will probably do the same

Got my wife at the end point and she parked by the green point park was traffic leaving the area though

You can fly into town on the N2 and get to waterfront, you can then find parking around the finish on the side roads etc. Very easy, no problems. I park in my office, there is plenty of parking under the fly overs which is open and close to start.

Avoid town centre, foreshore is lekker.

N2 will be fine., that inbound side of the road is open all day.

30 000 cyclists is nothing compared to cars in weekday commute.

Parking, eish.

it pains me that there is so much parking in the city that is unused for this sort of thing.

simple and easy is the CTICC, you turn in straight off the highway.

The fuzz are out in full force on the race day, if you're parking on the street then use designated parking bays. Don't park on pavements and on corners etc

This is one of a very few times plod and his squad come out to fine cars (easy targets)

make SURE your bike rack dont obscure your car lights or number plate ... OR have a rack with lights and a number plate ...

Expensive.

V&A waterfront may be cheaper and it's closer to the finish

Damn I never put my other number plate on..... I need to check this again. I replaced my number plates and kept my old one for this very purpose but I've never done it....

Getting into town on the N2, outgoing cyclist are on the other side of the road, so not a problem.

Finding parking, not a problem.   (If you are early, park at Greenpoint Traffic Department, great parking bays with plenty of guards and hoping not many others read this)

Getting through the f$#@$%# bottleneck checkpoint, to have your time chip and start card checked, takes longer than the drive from SW to town!  So leave some time for that!

We usually leave here around 1 1/2 hours before our race starts. Takes us 35 mins to get to Waterfront, park and go to toilets quick. Then a leisurely cycle to the start which takes us about 10 minutes.

Getting home after the race is another thing though. Lots of jams then to get out of the Waterfront.

A few times I've cycled to the start I don't mind that but my missus starts 2 hours after me so I'll load her bike for her so she can drive off and we can come home together.

We'll need to arrange for a baby sitter type thing also for #1 and #2 also for the day.

Does baby sitter type person bring the girls through to the finish?? (It's alot cheaper for us if they don't come through      ) no suckers, popcorn twirly chip thing on the stick type stuff to be bought.... I can just wait patiently for the wife in  the beer garden....  :w00t:

Sorry for the hijack.....

Just as a precaution, don't leave valuables in your car, such as GPS, dash cam etc. No point in tempting fate.

I travel from Fish Hoek and used to take the first train but the last time the driver never pitched up in Simonstown so had to leg it back to my parent house to get my car and fly over ou Kaapse onto Blue route to make my start in time.  Had lost my start card in the process and was turned around at the entry gate to a tent where they printed me another card.  Luckily I had time in hand.

Now I leave at 5 am by car for a leisurely drive to Sea Point then that allows me time to warm up before going to sit at the start.  1F for me this year.   might have to go 15 mins earlier.

Agree with Tankman. I usually rock up quite early, and park in that small parking area in front of the Traffic Department (actually called the Gallows Hill Traffic Dept).

I then chill in my vehicle for a while, get my stuff ready at a leisurely pace, and saunter down to the chutes by going down Main rd.

Once finished with the race, it is a few minutes cycle to my vehicle, and I then I go onto Main rd, up to Buitengracht str where I throw a left, onto Nelson Mandela Blvd, onto the N1, straight home. Takes no more than 10 minutes to get onto the N1 this way.
