Rear Thru Axle removal

Hi

I am trying to remove the rear wheel and it has a thru axle that is really tight. I tried to rotate the lever but it does not budge.

Do i need to use an allen key or do i use more force on the lever?

First bike with a rear thru axle, all the others had QR.

and grease the axle when you put it in, every time, marine grease is great for this...

Marine grease becomes very tacky / sticky. The correct stuff to use is copperslip or nickle slip

Thanks, will use more force. Didn't want to, incase the thread was reversed.

and yes, i tried in the correct direction, anti clockwise and the bike was the right way around.

Needed the answer to grease/no grease but only found more confusion on the internet.

Some adamant that it should be, but differing on what is best to use. (from grease to light chain lubes)

Others saying completely unnecessary.

What's the deal and the right stuff to use.?

Aluminuim does "corrode" so I have been using Copperslip as it works well when it gets wet and does last. It also does act like a grease that might cause the axel to loosen over time

Put on some gloves when you do and if you can and try and avoid as much pressure on your hands as possible. A week back I was pretty sure I had a seized crankbolt. Till it came loose. Bike was literally standing for 5 years.  A big hex bit and shifting spanner for leverage. I pushed so hard on that shifter that I sprained my carpels moer toe. And when that bolt finally came free, I kapped my knuckles on the chainstay. Also make sure there are no toddlers lurking in the area. They will repeat any colourful words used.

careful here, i had a stuck rear through axle. used so much force that I actually bent the axle handle thingy. more leverage is good and all but i would first get some Q20 or any other thread penetrating lube in on the other side, where the threads are. Let that soak in for a few hours then try again.

Once out, wipe excess Q20 off, wash with de greaser, dry. I use red grease with teflon. thin coat on the axle itself and just a dot on the threads. install, wipe off excess grease.
