Tubeless Hack

So, if you're a cheapskate like me, you will be doing your own tubeless work...

You'll also not want to spend ridiculous money on pre charge pumps, or you'll not have the space for a compressor...

You'll also not want to take your bike to the local garage, and my closest has even converted their pumps to the digital set and forget ones anyway...

So, I am aware of the coke bottle trick... It's not something I like the idea of...

So,i found a safer, cheaper, less hacky type solution... I use a Gardena pressure sprayer - the one for weeds.

It's pretty simple.

Remove the trigger from the empty sprayer. The standard pipe fits perfectly snug over a Schrader valve, so for presta just use a R20 converter. Pop the pipe on the valve, punch it to block it off, and pump the sprayer bottle until the safety valve starts expressing... Then, let go!

It's fantastic, I've used it on my fat bike tyres and it's brilliant, much safer, obviously, than the 2L bottle, and as I use it already for washing and cleaning various things around the house, not an extra cent to be spent to have your own tubeless pop!

you can also connect a hose to your least favourite neighbours car and presto!

Brilliant! I have been wondering if this would work. What size/volume pressure sprayer are you using?

I've done this and it definitely works, I think it's 3l that I have

I have a 5L... I find the extra volume is perfect, especially with fat wheels, as you probably only have half that volume at good pressure before it equalizes..

I just think it's a safer, cheaper alternative to the 2L bottle hack, with the built in pump handle and the safety release it should be better than taping up a coke bottle...

Have you been using the neighbour who drives a little city car or the big bad 4x4 variants ?

The little old lady's little city car..

The guy who owns a big bad 4x4 also owns a Glock...

How about using a big CO2 cannister, like the ones used for paintball markers? Just for seating, because the CO2 / cold doesn't play well with certain sealants.

Or if you really want to overdo it, use a scuba tank.

i haven't tried it, but reckon the soda stream bottle would be the best bang for buck option here.

pun fully intended.

It's been a while since I had a bottle refilled, but the paintball ones are cheaper to refill at about R20 versus the sodastream ones.

And yes, there might be a bang!

Great question - no bleeding 4x4ing neighbours but, I'll do for a walksie next time
