How many people did the Cycle Tour on a single speed?

even with that slack chain, the one one is looking sexy!

7th CTCT on an SS. Not really difficult but getting the gearing right and having the right technique is crucial.

Fell back to 6E and rode at a very leisurely pace with my girlfriend on her first CTCT. So the wind was not that much of an issue but sitting on a bike for that amount of time gets to you after a while. Hats off to the backmarkers.

Nice one! What was your gearing ratio and how did it fair?

The steep hills are not the issue, gears are selected for this, climbing Smits in the gale and Chappies later was a breeze. It's the descents that are trouble, and with fixie you're obviously grinding the whole way unless you stop for water...and yes, it is cool to say "I did it on a fixie"!!

hahahaha I was being facetious.... I rode a 3:44 on a BMX a few years ago and have managed a 3:17 on a SS road bike.

Done Freedom Challenge and pretty much most big MTB stage races on a rigid SS as well.  Even did Ezelenduro on a SS 2 years ago!

Now I enjoy the luxury of gears and I will make absolutely no excuses!

This year was fantastic being able to soft pedal when the traffic was a bit thick

Black bike with wide handlebars? Sounds like someone I know, you can't miss those calves...

Could've been. I was too poked to notice such things as bike colour or bar widths, although I have a suspicion this guy was on the drops as he came steaming past.

36/14 for a blistering time of 6h50 and a few seconds (That includes an ice-cream stop, a few selfie stops and at least two picnics)

i'm guessing you would have wanted a shorter gear to get into the wind.

done it 46/18 on a mild day

was too short a gear for the course

bought a 17 the next week

WHAAAAAAAT?

fixies are so much more fun to ride.

what are you using otherwise?

More typical habitat and weapon of choice....

not one for white bikes but this one in all white is so sexy. Everything just works for it from the bar to the seat.????????

Is it really that difficult on a SS? If it's your weapon of choice you are likely strong and used to it?

None of the hills are particularly steep.... But then SS riders love to say 'but I rode it on a SS' I suppose.......

How do you know if someone rides a fixie?

They'll tell you, of course!
