Where to buy good enduro kit in South Africa

Howsit,

Going to Morzine in June to do some proper enduro and apparently my road cycling kit is not going to cut it. I rode Rotorua two years ago dressed like Chris Froome and folks were horrified.

Where can one buy decent baggie enduro shorts and shirts in Cape Town or Jozie? Which brands are best?

Complete new to this "enduro"vibe.

Thanks for all the advice.

Have a look at Leatt's stuff - they have everything from baggies, shirts, knee and elbow guards, helmets - convertable, full face and normal, goggles, gloves etc. Available in a bunch of colour ways, most places stock it or can order it for you, and it's well priced too.

Great that this thread popped up. Also looking at getting into more enduro races, but I guess rocking up with my cleats and lycra shorts will be severely frowned upon XD

why don't you buy it over there. the range of choice will justify the expense.

But failing that, what Eddy Gordo mentioned: fox racing.

Bike-addict.co.za also has a few things. you'll have to shop around though.

Get the stuff there. The downstairs shop in Les gets always has specials and the range of stuff is massive. Also you'll get stuff there that you don't get here.

Plus you'll be helping the local shops. Remember their season is only 2 months long.

When in June? Have you checked the lift opening dates? Zore Opens 21st I think but you really want to get there the last weekend of June to access all the linking lifts and the other parks.

Most guys ride clipped in - you just need to be able to walk in your shoes. Some enduros have hike-a-bike sections that are unridable.

Lycra - the enduro crowd isn't too worried about what people wear, hell some guys look like they just rode through a lumo paint factory. But no one wants to see dudes in lycra, ever. Haha

You can pretty much get trail shorts or baggies at most shops.

A few things I personally do:

I prefer my baggies without inners (padding for your bum bum) so that I can wear them a few times and just put on a fresh bib or padded shorts for the next ride. I just buy padded shorts at MRP Sport. I own a pair of Specialized, Pearl Izumi and Fox padded shorts and to be honest can't tell the difference between my R299 MRPs and my R1000+ brand shorts.

So you can get nice brand baggies + MRP padded shorts for a little cheaper and way more use. I have found that I can buy a pair of baggies + 2 or sometimes 3 padded shorts for the price of a single brand padded baggy pants.

For jerseys I just buy plain black / gray MRP sport Maxed exercise shirts they very cheap when compared to mtb jerseys. I much like other people also like a brand here and there so I do have some, got myself a very nice Scott one on sale yesterday for R699.

Something nice with tops is, if you like brands you can get like Fox t-shirts for around R299 and just ride with those in the winter and skinny jeans are also great for winter.

So if you are like me and you don't really want to fork out quite a bit of money just for some branded kit this works perfectly fine, tried and tested.

Like winter time is honestly the best, jeans and hoody riding there is just something to it.

Sincere thanks to all who have respond above, the advice is greatly appreciated. May buy a pair of shorts there and take over the three bibs I have to wear underneath. Apparently a full face helmet and pads comes with the rental bike.

Now just need to learn to ride drop offs larger than 15cm and figure out who Send it Sunday is.

You get a lekker pair of baggies. With the weirdes socks you can buy. Then you go to edgars or some place with lekker check shirt . Then you look like a canadian timber man. And rip down the trails. If it gets messed up or you wipe your grease hands off on it its no worries

Get some decent knee pads, gloves and maybe elbow guards. If you're using lift access I'd get a back protector too or at least wear a back pack for some spine protection.

Agreed, safety First !

You can wear practically any baggy shorts with a bip. Even #enduro bro flannel shirts. Invest in protection
