most of the brands discussed uses the same company for their chamois  - Elastic Interface

My ass must be unusual. Threw away one of my first bibs yesterday after reading this thread. Decathlon cheapie from 2009 that I was still happily using under baggies on the MTB. I have three other sets of decathlon bibs of various ages that have got me through the last ten years with no drama. Most expensive we’re about 40 pounds

40 Pounds is like a-kazillion ZAR  :P.

Jokes aside.... I have Assos bibs and some others but for short rides (40/50km) sometimes I use normal Chino type shorts and undies - undies wear out pretty fast though. [emoji39] Curious to know if many others do the same?

No. Just no.

I reported your conduct to the UCI.

I wear cut off jean pant on the gravel bike and baggies on the mtb. If I'm just doing a quick spin (2 or less hours) I don't wear a chamois.

I'm with Jewbacca on this. Anything under 2 hours or anything on an indoor trainer and I just wear my running shorts, which are mostly 10year old PE shorts I used to wear in high school with whatever undies happen to be on.

Much easier to make the rear end tough, means that anything from 2-4 hours can be done in tri pants and bibs only come out 100+km

Bought a pair of Assos T Cento's - sticker price is R5.5K.

I bought in 2018 but have hardly used them as mostly used only for road - MTB get whatever comes out of the cupboard first.

The elastic on the legs has given up completely and now looks like a frilly skirt. they ride up and the padding bunches.

The agents are useless and say that they've been exposed to extreme heat - maybe even a tumble dryer.............. in what world I ask you?? The care instructions were followed and my other stuff literally last longer than I want them to and I didn't pay anywhere near what these cost and that includes the local brands.

bottom line - don't buy this crap or if you do, ask for a 2 for 1 deal - maybe you'll feel less violated when the first one fails.

Never had one fail. wear out yes

The oldest is 17years old. Two Golfer MTB tours under the belt for the three pairs from back then.

One I had to retire because my lady training partner kept telling me how good my butt looked in them. It took a while to catch on.....ego you know....

recently bought X2 Mille T7's on black Friday for R1500 a pop. Even the cheapest ASSOS is better the competitions most pricey bib.

i love assos shorts... been using them for 5 years... but my recent purchases have also ended up frilly after about 50 uses... my older shorts are still not frilly-after about 600 washes... all get washed together.

perhaps the new stuff are "good" knockoffs? or not as good as the older fabric?

I have 8 pairs, 4 are just over 10 years old.

The older ones are thinning at the lower back. Now I use those for spinning.

Great shorts. Would never switch brands.

Handwashing almost anything makes it last longer. If you have decent tailormade cotton shirts, machine washing them gives you far less than half the life of handwashing. Machine washing is hard on stuff. Most of our stuff gets machine washed. But some items only get handwashed.

But some items only get handwashed.

New shorts used to bring me good intentions of hand washing, but I'm afraid that ship has sailed.

Now I take my chances dumping my Assos in the washing machine.
