I see the maincheese lost 4:55 to rogga. Eish but he is going to have to sharpen up if he ever wants to seriously contend for the gc.

Maybe one day he will finish in the Tour de France top 10. Twice.

Sorry, I made one small omission in that post. The word "again" should be found at the end of the sentence.

He has 2 x top 10 at TDF, but he was never in contention. There is a big difference.

IMHO, barring major catastrophe, everyone from Hagen in 6th is just there as an also ran. 3 minutes is possible to overturn in these 2 weeks, but 5 plus change? nah...

Much like Meintjies. Top 10 is an amazing result, but to be 'a contender'one needs to be threatening for the win.

Well, that's how I see a 'contender'.... Just some Wednesday morning semantics....

Agreed. Much as I am unashamed Maincheese fanboy those were both "invisible" top 10s.

He was/is young and I'm really hoping he can find a team/surround himself with people that can convert his potential into positions. DD doesn't seem to be the right place.

I agree, although with a terrible ITT I think he should re-asses his goals and become a pure climber. Chase Polka jerseys and stage wins.

With the current crop of 20-30 year old GC contenders, even NQ struggles and he beats the pants off Meintjies in the ITT.

Realistically, I can't see him ever being 'the best' over 3 weeks, but he could light up a race on 3 or 4 stages.

Was wondering how this will work... UAE send Pog off up the road and Rog and his team has to chase and Mov sits on...

i may be wrong, but I suspect Roglic bought his ticket to Madrid on the Movistar bus. Then again, I may be wrong

Maybe that’s the best he can be and he just does not have that physical ability to make the jump to a “position”

Yes it would nice to see him back to his previous best and hopefully he refinds the trick

Agreed.

Me I'd like him to win a stage or 2 and maybe a polka dot jersey.

That said - I'm not sure how euro contracts work. Maybe a top 10 is a better contract negotiating chip than stages/jerseys.

Ultimately he will do what is best for his career I'd guess.

For sure.

It's also really hard to gauge what he is capable from here with his current form.

In other news, It has been great to see Dlamini and Ben O'Connor get up the road in the first week of the Vuelta.
