Cape Town Cycle Tour 2020

Wish my business was "waning" in the same manor has the CTCT -  So many factors including loads of races, a shockingly dreadful economy and a seriously expensive city.  People have more options now in so many ways.  Airbnb only adds beds so getting a place to stay has become easier anywhere in the world where they operate.  Tourism is 10% down in SA yet we have more places to stay.

I doubt marketing it better would garner more entries and it's still a massively successful event

So its 7 weeks to go to the CTCT, leaving 6weeks to train.

Anyone want a copy of Lance Pharmstrong's Seven weeks to your best results yet"?

Weather forecast looks brilliant

 low 13

high 23

Wind; WSW 13km/he gusting to 23km/hr.

perfect March day.

Interest in the event is definitely waning. Not only ito entries but also all the additional stuff for us out of towners.

I remember when I entered my first ARGUS in 2012 you had to book accommodation, car rental, flights and bike transfer first thing when entries opened in September to avoid paying an arm and a leg, and also to secure all the necessities because of high demand.

For the event this year, I booked all the additionals last week - really cheap accommodation in Sea Point (and lots left for those who haven't booked), reasonable flights (R1500 return - in the past they would go for R3000 plus 6 weeks before the event) and all the rest.

I have said before that I prefer the more chilled ARGUS - it makes for a safer ride and you can actually get a coffee on the customary Saturday morning warm up ride to Houtbay without having to wait until the start on Sunday :P

WOW good price. Who with? Normal price or with some sort of discount through Vitailty etc? I paid R1811 on Mango with my 50% Momentum discount.

Did you have to make me realise I am running out of time to train?

LOL

I was chatting to a colleague this morning who was saying he's feeling comfortable because he's "got three months to get ready for Argus.."

I looked at him blankly......said "try 6weeks.."

He still hasn't recovered

might have an entry up for sale soon  :whistling:

Difference in interest in the event and the event itself (I was referring to the former). I somehow doubt the CTCT is waning as business.

Ya a lekke price on Kulula - I should add that I scoured their website for 2 day and might just have caught the algorithms right  . Vitality discount applied.

Ah ok, thought as much. I could have knocked about R300 off the price on a different flight but the times didn't suit me at all.

If you really think about it, sub R2k to fly is a bargain. How else you going to get there for less? It is still an expensive weekend though even with all discounts. I get a 40% discount with AVIS and that also helps but without all these discounts I would have to bleed big time to pay to ride the best race ever.

I just did a quick Airbnb search in greenpoint for places over the Argus weekend and there is loads of well priced amazing accommodation.

The days of ridiculously expensive Cape Town accommodation are loooooooong gone.

If I do enter the race I reckon I'm gonna book an Airbnb for my little family and we can hang out in the city for the weekend and pretend we're tourists.

tell me about it.

flights and accommodation are booked, but I still need to hire a car and get the bike down there.

And this year we are taking the kids down with us for the first time, so constantly googling free things to do in cape town.

Go see the penguins in SimonsTown. You don't have to pay to get on to the beach. There's a wooden walkway behind the beach the penguins are doing their thing right up to the fence.

NO NEED to pay sanarks to get on to the beach.

There's also a walkway along the sea between Muizenberg and St James. It's cool to go at low tide to jump around on the rocks and see the sealife.

Depending on what is in the goodie bag, if we get one, a few years back there was a coupon to go up the mountain. It was like a buy one get one free. We obviously had 2 and it was before I had kids and my wife was with me and my folks so all 4 of us went up and only paid for 2.

What is also not too badly priced is a cruise out of the harbor, We did it about 3 years ago and I was surprised at how reasonably priced it was.

Obviously non of this is for free but it also isn't ridiculously priced and both Girls should enjoy.

Walking around V&A waterfront is free but the problem is you spend money while there............

Aquarium..........Haven't been in years and not sure on entrance. They should enjoy.

What is on your list? I might need it in a few years time for my boys.......

How do you get on the beach without paying Sanparks?

Posted

R70 gets you on a boat out of Hout Bay harbor around the sentinel to the Seal Island. Pretty cool and not expensive. They say it's a glass bottom boat but that is stretching the definition IMO.

You don't get on the beach. The beach sucks anyway. It's PACKED with tourists taking snappys and you get no closer to the penguins than if you just cruise along the walkway around the back.
