Sold my bike at the beginning of this year. For me, the bike just became to much of a faff. Spending stupid money on replacing parts and it ultimately just became a black hole for my free time. It takes so much time to prep all your gear, the bike, get dressed, drive to the trails, unload, ride, repack, drive home, unpack, wash, etc. etc. Just eats up those precious hours over the weekend.

Now I run and can get a better exercise in 2hrs than I can during a day long ride, with no fuss. Shoes, shorts, shirt, water and out the door.

I still want to get a bike in 2020, but considering that winter is approaching, I can't be arsed about it now.

IICR you were(probably still are) pretty good at going down a hill quickly?

Two things I love about running is 1) the flexibility - you just need some shoes and 2) the clear milestones you can use to track progress - it's nice to see all your different PR's and how you improve over time.

There are also a lot more running races in the year, especially locally for me.

Im loving squash again, its 45mins and I come off the court drenched after a game.

It's a catch 22 for us. We either put up with your "advertising" here or on IG/twitter. So either way we stuck with banana bread and bootleggers.

That Bootleggers is something special... was in Fresnaye for a night a couple weeks back, me and missus popped into the Bootleggers late after leaving Mojo Market - was seriously impressed with their coffee. Even went back again the next morning to cap off a run...

Good coffee is always worth the trip

Regardless of whether you are an active, former, wannabe cyclist. It's undeniable that this forum has something to offer everyone. I'm incredibly grateful that cycling brought me here and continues to add value to my life.

Like CBlake, I only visit a handful of threads and they are mostly non-cycling related, but great microcosms of the world out there.

I love this forum, I have a connection with a lot of members on here and I have been around for a long time.

The problem is that Im an impostor really. Its been over a year since I rode one of my bikes, and probably closer to two years.

Does that mean I dont love cycling? No not really, I still keep up to date with everything and love reading about what everyone else is doing.

The reality is that I go through seasons.

At some stages Im a die hard cyclist, at others Im a runner, then I switch to tech or woodworking.

I have been immensely supported by amazing woodworkers on this forum in the woodwork thread and those members kept me trying to achieve more with their encouragement.

I have even had my marriage saved by a forum member who dragged me through one of the darkest times of my life, and I will always be in his debt for that.

One thing never changes though, I cant give up the people who make this forum a place I keep coming back to every day.

So am I alone in this? are there others who still hang around here despite not actually riding their bikes?

I'm in the same boat. Also haven't been on the saddle in a while, well since 19 August 2018 according to my Strava profile. I still have my bike, but not interested in entering events anymore. Thinking of sending it into the LBS to have it converted back to a commuter hybrid one of these days. Work, family commitments, and other interests like running and gaming are also factors.

With that said, I first joined Le Hub in 2009. Started working somewhere else and I lost my first Hub account. Joined Le Hub again in 2012 and it's always been my go-to forum. There is another forum I'm on, but I out of the two, I spend a lot more time on the Hub.

My riding has dwindled to every other weekend with my daughter, tore some ankle ligaments a couple months ago and recovery has been rather strenuous. I can do short stints at easy pace but nothing where performance is concerned.

You are not alone
