With the uptick in infections i don't see the tour happening this year.

Everything here has been cancelled up until the end of October now.

Are you talking local? Burgos starts in 10 days followed by Ventoux and Tour A'lain and then onto Dauphine. Nothing so far has been cancelled on WT calendar.

Where is "here"?

France,Germany.Luxembourg and Belgium.

Had my accommodation at Menton cancelled yesterday. That's around 50km from Nice.

Ja,local events but but there's a meeting on Sunday to decide on border controls again. No use having the Tour if spectators cant travel.

Fans can't attend football games and it's not like cycling spectators pay for road side entry...yeah the tourist industry takes a heavy knock.. but that is unfortunately a problem workd wide.[emoji2368]

Interesting that your accommodation was cancelled. I really cant comment on that but all communication we have to date is that for example Duaphine is not cancelled. I got my travel 2 days ago for that and the hotels and so forth.

I can understand from a spectator point things being limited - its super **** I will be the 1st one to admit that as there is nothing better standing roadside but everything from a race side its on.

However, if you make it to the Tour, hit me up please.

Interesting indeed. Reported rise in infections in France doesn't seem high at all. Watching this space closely

The French are very concerned about the spike and what seems to be the start of the second wave..they are well aware or the R rate and paying very close attention to it.. Even if it seems low to us who are sitting at 13k plus a day..

This all from communication I have received from a friend and family over in France..

Did some home work for you on this.

ASO pre book accomodation in towns and surrounds for the Tour for the teams, media, staff and and. This is typically done a year in advance and with all that happened and is happening the answer I got was “They would of cancelled his accommodation and would be with ASO now”

If countries decide on lockdowns perhaps and greater restrictions every time there are a few more infections like some are doing (even in the sub 50 amounts not even thousands) when will it ever end? Just rolling from economic distaster to the next.

It will end once they have a proven treatment for the various types. If you look at the link @IceCreamMan posted on the other thread.. There is real hope that now that they have identified more types of it they can treat it better. Until then they will want to keep the R rate lower in order for the health care system to cope..

I do not think France will go back to the same kind of LD than before but I could see them restricting certain non essential movement...

As it stands I do not think that the TDF will be canned though...I read some of the regulations around the TDF and yes it may be challenging but it still allows for the race to continue. Unless there is a major change in things we should still see the TDF this year...[emoji1696]

We had to make changes to the Burgos team at the last minute with reserves due to some riders not being covered by insurance if they flew into Spain from their home country. Their country said cool, you can go but if you fall ill, you on your own and no medical insurance etc.

Yes pretty savage but I guess its their countries call on it. We moved them to Italian races instead.

With all that's gone on this year if I wake up to a mail and saying racing is off I wont be surprised at all but I personally believe there is a focus to the Tour and see what happens post that.

Also some organisers have taken the safety route and called races off on the premise of "better safe than sorry" even with no threats etc of Covid in the area or so forth. I think some have been premature but respected none the less.

2020 is broken in many aspects, it needs a reset IMHO.
