Hey guys

I am possibly in the market for a new STEEL MTB FRAME that is likely to built up as a single speed (but possibly geared)

I am looking for suggestions of bikes that are available in SA (or easily shipped to SA)

Must be 29er

Let me know your thoughts

off the top of my head that is available locally. also custom stuff available from Mercer etc

PS: momsen mentioned in another thread that they are updating the STR frames for 2020....if it is just paint or geometry too...not sure.

One day when I'm big...I'll order one of these..

he needed to make the Lanky Lemur 29'r from his signature range with sliding dropouts in my opinion...it would have opened it up to all those SS hardcores too. but then i guess it's as easy as just doing it for Mr Mercer though.

Thanks guys!

Not sure I am that keen on a Momsen although the new 2020 might be interesting

The contraband looks awesome and have contacted website but agree with @copperhead that the website is pretty amature

Does anyone know whether cotic still make bikes and whether you can get them?

PFFT...

lol

they don't do single speed frames anymore though.

they do ship here, but you are then looking at about 12-15k for a hardtail frame.

if you are not totally set on SS the world is your oyster in terms of steel hardtails. So many cool ones out there.

also, sprocket and jack in jhb is the local distro for Surly bikes too i just remembered.

NINER Sir9 or ROS9 depending on your poison....

Hands down the best SS steel frame option with a local dealer in SA.

if you like selling kidneys to fund bicycle frames though  :whistling:

really dont get why a niner HT frame costs 25k ish vs say a cotic for nearing half that. same reynolds 853 too. they arent smaller than Cotic for sure?

25k is nearing titanium figures

25k is a lot. BUT they are frames for life.

Cotic usually use a steel tube mix, so some tubes 853, others not. Their new frames have some amazing updated Geo but no SS specific versions.

The Contraband and the old Simples are a bit outdated Geo wise.

Swift also make nice steel SS bikes.

If I was going to get a frame, I would email this guy...

marino@marinobike.com

Custom Tig welded steel frames for less that 500 dolla all in.
