no disagreement whatsoever!

the reality is, that you can buy a welder, grinder, steel, wood, castor wheels and make something a little less refined but very similar for under the price of one of those.

32" computer screen on a wall swivel mount.

NUC PC placed out of the way, with a wireless keyboard.

The keyboard and water bottle is placed on a bar stool.

Fan is on a cupboard

Would be interested in the graphics you get from NUC's. Although they aren't cheap as an option

We have a pain cave so it made more sense to build a permanent fixture instead of a movable desk.

±R130 melamine cut to size(Builders will cut for you) A few brackets and wall plugs and we have a pretty neat set up for the laptop and tv(I also like rouvy on laptop screen and then I can watch supercross or youtube up top)

There are a lot of really good ideas and epic set ups in the thread below:

I bought tube steel, a can of spray paint and had some wood at home.  I then splashed on 4 wheels.

Complete cost? (I had welder, grinder etc) R340.

And honestly, it's miles better than any one I tested / saw because the bigger wheels roll nicely on my gym floor and it holds my 16" Laptop perfectly with space for a bottle or two.  Not to mention fits well around the front wheel.

It's stable as anything, but if I did it again, I'd fill the bottom piece with sand / lead / weight to have it bulletproof stable (not needed), but it may affect rolling.

Pity I dont Zwift anymore.  I literally made it 1 ride before the ban on riding outdoors lifted, and outdoors beats indoors, so fuuuuuuck that.

Come to Jhb and ride outdoors this morning mate. Frozen bird baths are just the beginning. You ain't seeing me out there in this weather although i did swear that during Level 5 lockdown i would ride outdoor every opportunity but its well cold.

Zwift training is much more structured and i have seen big gains from using it as a training tool as well as had a lot of fun on weekdays when i wouldn't normally have the time to ride.

I would normally have been with you on this but i must say i am a convert. Zwift rides = stagger downstairs and be on a ride in 15 minutes. Riding outside = dress like a snowman and freeze for 2 hours and overheat for another whilst breathing through a mask and use up a whole morning travelling to and from a riding venue, avoiding other folks who are snotting and sweating etc.

I'm running Zwift on a NUC7i3. I purchased it for R3000 on Carbonite. Was brand new and came with Win10 Pro, 500GB HDD and 8GB of RAM - it's epic and also doubles up as a media center PC as it's got loads of ports

These things are really pricey on Takealot and Evetech etc but there are good deals to find on sites like Carbonite.

Originally ran Zwift etc perfectly with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. Over time, I've upgraded it to 16GB of RAM with a 512GB M.2 NVMe drive and an additional 1TB SSD - just cos we need to upgrade our PC's like our bikes!

Here's a snap of Gertrude:

I use Zwift on my phone with a blob of Prestik to stick it to the headset or on the Garmin mount. Super cheap.  I can plug the phone in if i have to just have to watch your knee if you stand. Font is a bit small but its not too bad.

Then the spare TV for watching whatever.

Would be interested in the graphics you get from NUC's. Although they aren't cheap as an option

The NUC is an entry level, still on Win 7 .... remnants from a previous project.

I am happy with the image ..... sure some will note it is not 1080 yada yada ....

On the odd occasion I loose the telemetry next to other riders for a few seconds (maybe 1 or two rides a month).  Not sure if relates to the NUC, or my ADSL, or something else .... I carry on cycling and all my data is still recorded, and soon enough I see the data of everybody else.

Pretty sure the image would be better on the more high spec NUC units, but then you are past Apple TV prices ....

Biggest limitation of this system - due to this NUC's specs I am not going to try and load Win 10 onto it .... thus most of the alternative platforms wont run on it.

I found that Zwift runs much better when the PC is cabled in and not using Wi-Fi... not sure if you're using a network cable but if not, something worth trying

I have that too from time to time. From what I understand that's to do with your internet connection. I actually don't mind it coz all the riders dissappear and I have Zwift to myself.

BTW. There's a hack to ride the new France routes.

You edit 2 xml files and make them read only and off you go. I think this is only for windows tho. I don't think you can access xml files in Apple TV. Or if they even exist.
