FML bru I dont understand how this works.

I wont name names but it is 4 weeks after I asked my LBS what they can get in my budget and I am still listening to the crickets in the background.  Cycles United accosted me with livechats while browsing their site, pointed me at the branch in PE for an XL frame and voila been riding it for almost 2 weeks already.

Do some places not want to do business?

This is why I’m willing to pay more and wait linger by sending my money out of the country to places like CRC

I’m a huge “support local” advocate but I’m also starting to say “**** local”.

I mainly buy from overseas. I get the brand and type of tyres I want as well as parts. I dont settle for what we have locally as pricing is either similar or more locally.

2 years ago I wanted to buy a santa cruz frame. The peoples are still getting back to me. While they doing that, I bought myself a guerilla gravity.

Same with some mtb shoes I wanted. The agents let me wait 3 months, then told me some story about sizing, hence they not getting. So I ordered the pair I wanted from overseas, which is/was cheaper than their cheapest shoe locally.

I still give local a chance, but if I cant find what I want........

Maybe the increased business activity of late has made some shops abit under the collar busy and they not use to the increased demand and lack of stock.

But customer service does go a long way and last longer than slightly cheaper prices.

Also cycles united were on point, i reached out to them. P.E branch called me twice to try to arrange a norco for me, i missed the deal lastweek as i was abit hesitant, but thats on me.

So some stores are defs still on point.

DMR V-Twin pedals are R3500 locally. Imported from CRC for just under R2000 landed. Trying to work that one out still.

Damn, really?

Maybe i should check out what they have on offer

Yeah PE did me a good price. Upsold me a few items at very reasonable cost although I declined the tubeless conversion at 2.35 tyres replacing 2.6 that ships on the bike.

Glad I didnt get tyres then as I popped one of the goodyears on the exhaust on my way back from PE.

Got a replacement from them at a great price as they had some trade in from a previous customer took both as I am very happy with the goodyears overall performance at the back and front.

Running them tubeless now.

Not so keen to see 40% of my money being lost in the first year.

but maybe with this high demand it can only be 20% to 30% loss.

Im so itching to get myself a dual, will pull the trigger by this wknd

That will happen no matter what brand you buy. And unless you know what you are doing, there will always be an element of risk to being the second buyer a year later, hence the drop in value. But the run on stock lately will have made a difference to that.

OP,if all you can get in your size without hassle is a Titan Cypher, then I wouldn't hesitate to get one. The 120mm travel versions are very nice, offer good value and as you progress, you won't be progressing beyond the bike's capabilities. The frame won't be outdated in 2 years time and they have a great warranty.

I reckon get one and ride it for 4years and upgrade things as they brake.

You could have been on a new bike already....

yeah, had word with my brother and he also is very impressed with the Titan, so by the wknd i will most defs be pulling the trigger on a dual sus bike.

like the fact that the Titan you can drop the slack of the bike by switch of a button

Saw on of the Titans on the trails last weekend. Great looking bikes.

I assume you will be looking at the Cypher Carbon Expert?

120mm travel and the low setting with 67.5 degree head angle should make for a fun bike that can do most of SA can throw at you.

So I finally pulled the trigger!!

After a hard search,many calls/emails/whatsapps, I managed to get a Norco FS1.

Sram Nx 1 x 12

Rockshox revelation upfront

Rockshox delux in rear.

Dropper post Sram guide brakes

Now the worst part - Waiting for delivery which is next wednesday day only - out of JHB.

One more question, can I make the rear shock lockout? is it a heavy DIY or easy plug and play?

Posted

Congratulations man, you will have to change the shock to get a lockout, but the 2019 FS1 has a firm compression tune so you won't need a lockout, I have a 2020 which has a medium compression tune and I have never felt like I need a lockout

i have read that many ppl say it doesnt really need the rear lockout, so lets see.

thanks man! ........just the wait now is a killer.

Think i should get the frame protection fitted aswell

AMS makes a good kit. Get the xxl though. Xl isn’t enough to cover everything.

Alternatively get a roll of the thick clear gorilla tape. A fraction of the cost of frame kits and you can cover it as you see fit.
