Massively disappointed for Del Toro but can't blame him, he is young and will learn. Not sure who the clowns were in the UAE car but seems they were recruited from Movistar. Absolutely clueless watching WvA go in the break and then Yates riding away to bridge to him.

JC, I think they thought it was low risk with Yates, not really showing any significant form for 19 days.

Great spectacle!!!!!!  Great from the bees playing a great hand of poker....

Great 18th pace for Louis - essentially, sitting at the back and just riding along.... (not trying to knock him)

disagree. Final year on IWT contract for Maincheese at age 33, he needs to do something to keep riding somewhere. 50mins down and 18th at Giro is 60 UCI points, even pidcock beat him.

In 2022 he got 7th/10th GC at Tdf/Vuelta. Since then he hasn't had any significant results.

I'm not sure if he wants to keep racing beyond this year, but will need better results to add some value. (VERY happy to be wrong, not many SAF left in the peleton)

You have only 2 riders to worry about and the one is with you and the other is less than 90 seconds behind on GC with WvA up the road you eat all the food in your pockets, open your suitcase of courage and chase until you fall off the bike. You don't arrive at the end with energy to win the sprint for second. UAE must hang their heads in shame.

Did Louis go in any breaks? He had used this effectively in the past to climb GC

Yes he went into two breaks.

The one break stayed away and his DS recalled him....

The second break he was in it until 20km to go.

I know he has not had a top 10 result, but to me he is racing more aggressively, some TV time and end of the day he is still up there.

I always bench mark Louis against Nairo, the game moved on, their top 20`s now is as good as top 10 few years back.

For his future, sure he will get a ride but not as a protected rider, unfortunately I do not see him as a super dom, so unfortunately it will be a second tier team.

If he decide to hang up the wheels, good for him, he can be proud of his career.

Ps. Coming from the most vocal critic of Louis riding style.

Seems I need to go watch the DSTv 2hr highlights...

Louis always seems to ride at the back of the peloton. I found it quite strange, the amount of times he had to "sprint" whenever the riders in front of him got dropped is countless. Having to work extra hard just to close the gap. Not sure if there is a reason why he chooses to ride like that?

@Irvin85it is Louis riding style. I read a few years back that he feels comfortable at the back and spend less energy than fighting for position higher up in the peloton being small in stature.

I`m in agreement with your view. Guess that Louis will be doing the La Vuelta this year, will always support Louis, but perhaps it is worth trying to position himself higher up.

His last Giro was in 2018, perhaps this is his final year.

here's an interesting snapshot to see how the game has moved on. Only 4 of these guys have retired

I thought so much, It was/is probably one of his biggest downfalls when it comes to grand tours, Louis has historically almost always lost time during the first week, either being caught out of position when a split happens or being caught behind a crash. He would probably have many more top 10/5 finishes if it weren't for that. Just my opinion.
