TheoG Posted December 15, 2021 Share Been looking for a while now for carbon rims but I simply cant get myself to justify the cost. Maybe its just my perception, but it look like the difference between carbon & Al on rims are much higher than other parts like handle bars as an example. I understand rims are not easy to make and need to be of high integrity for safety reasons, but at this stage carbon rims are simply not an option for me. robbybzgo Posted January 4 Share Not mentioned above but I purchased some Stan's Valors (carbon 29") about 4 years ago. They are superb and very lightweight, so am I (that makes a great combination). Just purchased another set, second hand (no longer available new) in 27.5 size a few days ago (on BikeHub). Can't wait to fit them and ride. Their Crest Mk4 has a 25mm inner width and weighs only 399g per rim, placing them squarely in carbon territory, for far less money. Pair the crests with a light set of straightpull hubs and bladed spokes and you have a 1450g XC wheelset for under R15k. Me rida my bicycle Posted January 5 Share I have to say, I have been so sceptical/doubtful about going carbon, but I have always wanted a set. A year ago I decided to build my new bike with Bontrager Line elite carbon wheels as they have lifetime warranty, 2 year crash replacement and no weight limit (I'm not light). After a year of dumb line choices and going faster than I should on blind runs (on a HT), they have not missed a beat. Except for replacing the bearings I have not needed to do anything else and have not lost a single tyre even running ultra thin sidewall tyres. Much better than changing a stan's rim every couple of months and losing at least one tyre per rim.  Edited January 5 by Me rida my bicycle Phillippe Coetzee and BigDL

Does it make a 17k difference 😂  Thank you nick_the_wheelbuilder
