two hands Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Frame is toast. Sadly. Also check that his seatpost is inserted enough (especially if he is a big guy!). If the end of the seatpost is only inserted into the seat tube collar or as far as the toptube junction the leverage of his weight being pushed back on the seat tube can cause the cracking.

Bl4d3 Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Aluminium frames go through a series of heat treatment steps after they've been welded. Welding up the frame without any heat treating will just weaken the surrounding area and the frame will likely crack again, and pretty soon as well. Best would be to look for a replacement frame unless you want to take a chance of a alloy pipe going up your bum. With that said, I've seen a few frames welded up and still going to years, but its a risk. MajG 1
