AllenH Posted February 7, 2022 Share Can I get an el cheapo Indoor Trainer and use my bike as is on it? With the standard MTB off road tires. I'm talking about those trainers that have the roller that your wheel makes contact with, I want to show myself I will actually use it before I go all out with the proper Direct drive ones. ChrisF Posted February 8, 2022 Share Yes it can be done. The noise drove me crazy !!! A friend is using it now, also with a MTB tyre, he is okay with the noise ... If possible. Try it before you commit...
Rolf Hansen Posted February 8, 2022 Share My wife used it for about 15 seconds before I went to buy a trainer tyre. The noise is insane. ChrisF and TheoG
coppi Posted February 8, 2022 Share If you have an old MTB tyre, turn that inside out..........works perfectly ! TheoG, Sepia, Dogs and 1 other
RobertWhitehead Posted February 8, 2022 Share Ya the noise will kill you, some stats: A MTB tire breaches 115Db (yes there is an app for that) A slick goes between 25-30 Db - massive difference TheoG, ChrisF and Beesrib 1
Milosh Posted February 8, 2022 Share I found a happy medium with the continuous ridge , just pump nice and hard , granted it was on commuter bike so was a good choice for mixed use anyway. ChrisF
AllenH Posted February 10, 2022 Share Thanks for all the advice, I don't think the noise is going to work for me, will rather save a bit and get a sued Direct drive TheoG
