I haven't done races since 2019. So today me and my son did the trailseeker Buffelsdrift. And it was dead. I didn't see cyclelab there. The doof doof music was not as vibey. It seemed mostly school series kids racing. Didn't even the cows. So is it falling apart?

It is CTCT weekend so i think many cyclists have gone to Cape Town. But events overall are showing reduced numbers.

Makes sense then. Thanks

Trailseker is definitely trending down imo.

but the numbers might also be down to why buffels is closing , getting to the venue is A damn nightmare and puts months wear on a passenger vehicle in just that 2km ish stretch.

YES. But the race starts at the arc which is tar road

Also was at Buffels, numbers were as high as ever for a Trailseeker, probably due to the new date and being one of the last opportunities to ride there.
Organisation for me was seamless and a great route.
Keep in mind that with the change of dates not all vendors/service providers could commit to the day. Compounded by the fact that there were a number of conflicting events over the same weekend. One person I spoke to was leaving straight after to fly down to CT to work on the Cycle Tour.

Event numbers have generally trended down, but they’ve also seen a levelling out with some areas increasing. Keep in mind that the event’s calendar is heavily saturated, since before Covid.
Nothing is “falling apart” or “dying” though.

The venue for the Buffels Trailseeker is actually next door on the ARC grounds, tar road all the way to the parking area. But yes, with Buffels closed down now, there will be no more races there in the future.

I was there yesterday and must agree, the numbers are definitely down from previous years.

A quick look at the results:

Marathon (70km) Yesterday - 356 finishers. 2019 - 712 finishers (held at Legends)

Half Marathon (40km) Yesterday - 594 finishers. 2019 - 1035 finishers

I remember the 2019. We had to park almost on the moloto Rd. Metros were there to navigate. Etc. So I assumed it has died down. Bit the CTCT makes sense. I didn't even know it's this weekend
