So 11km at around 9% on gravel. Sounds fun.

Think most of it is actually tar, but still a bastard of a climb

Few years back I was with the family at the wedding venue at the bottom, did a little social mtb ride down to McGregor and on the way I thought - let me see where this road goes.... Was certainly a longer and less fun afternoon than I imagined it would be, I also remember an involuntary little nap at the top just to get my breath back...

Nope the easy part is the 5km's on gravel the "fun bit" is the last 6kms on tar. I always say if a climb is tarred or laid with concrete then you must know what is waiting for you.

I started an analysis now of a few big climbs I've done in the last 5 months, but decided to delete the comment.

Any smartass thing I say now will 100% just come back to haunt me!

Alternatively stick to the current gearing so you can get the "full experience of going to the Gallows" 😈 I mean just look at Donovan & Dan's faces after crossing the line last year wouldn't you also want that experience?

I was 40 - 28 which was not a great choice...

The segment from McGreogor to the top of the climb is also a bastard. There are some descents but coupled with the rollers and the final climb it actually ends up being 18km at 6% which is essentially 10 x Suikerbossie South side :)

I'll be there, you won't come last

Seeing a lot of gravel bike talk....will be bringing a knife (mtb) to the gunfight.

Apart from some more gravelish tyres, thinking 36 x 11-50, after looking at the above msgs...

ok that's what I thought. Damn this gravel thing is so much fun once the race is on, but such a head scratcher before then to figure out gearing and tyres 😭

Tyres are probably the most heated debate in all the gravel world haha. Ive listened to about 6hours worth podcasts of grown men debating between 42s and 47s 😅
