Riders can put it in a pocket till they get to a dustbin. And when you make the signs for the next event. It is cyclists not cyclers... Same signage at Emperors - also sheer madness with traffic lights, gatvol motorists and overworked marshals near the end.

Didn't see any advertised litter zones, so not sure the organisers were responsible for that? They definitely had a chuck zone on the Montecasino Classic, didn't see one yesterday though. Stand to be corrected of course.
Scalpel Posted April 3, 2023 Share There was a litter zone on the old Bronkhorstspruit road. Marked with green paint on the road.

Sandro Posted April 3, 2023 Share Excuse my ignorance but why are litter zones even needed? How much stuff are people consuming on a bike ride that they can't just shove back in their pockets when its empty and toss out when they're done? dave303e, Vetplant, Wannabe and 5 others 6

Keeping your gel wrappers and bar wrappers and stuff on you costs at least 10 min, don't you know??? 🤣 Sandro and betaboy

Thank heavens I wasn't a participant because that must have been a terrifying experience. The marshals must have tried their best, but many of them were not up to the task/well briefed. I had one shout at me and furiously wave his flag because I was in the wrong lane, but he spent 10 seconds prior to his fit looking away from the traffic in the wrong direction - how the hell am I supposed to know which lane I'm supposed to be in if I want to turn and you're not even looking at the oncoming traffic. Sounds like incompetent orginizers

Treven Posted April 3, 2023 Share The Monte Casino, Emperors Palace and Groot Trap rides are poorly organised in my opinion. My wife and I rode all 3 and it is extremely dangerous riding amongst traffic. I almost got taken out by cars on 3 occasions. Motorists and bikers do not care about a cyclist safety and some continuously get as close as possible to you intentionally. These events should have total road closure. In a total road closure event you can only be hit by another cyclist. In a an “open road event” you can be hit by a car, motorbike, trailer, truck and even be trapped underneath these vehicles ( and your chance of survival much less). We pay a lot of money to enter these events and these events are now becoming a death race. Soon it will become a norm that a few cyclist will die in every race. It may be you or your family member next. My wife and I are really considering to no longer support these events till there is full road closure. Safety first. I do hope that others also have this opinion and perhaps this thread can make a difference. No one deserves to be killed in a cycling event Regards mazambaan
