Recently got Rival AXS shifters/brakes on my bike, and looking to add the required brake bleed tooling to my arsenal.

Any recommendations on a good bleed kit available locally?

Currently leaning towards something like this: https://evobikes.co.za/product/jagwire-wst052-elite-dot-bleed-kit/

Seems like a lot, but when you factor in ~R150 per brake at the LBS it starts to pay for itself quite quickly.

Thoughts?

Have the same kit for Shimano usage. Worth the price of admission

How often do you bleed brakes ?

Honestly for my road bike and MTB I just have the shimano funnel and some aquarium hose and I gravity bleed them easily, right of admission < a full bleed at your local shop.

For the gravel bike (and my other bikes with SRAM before then), I just take it to the shop whenever the brakes feel crap (which is unfortunately more often on the SRAM I've had than on the shimano).

I do mine every 6 months at minimum. I've also found having the correct tools for the job makes things so much easier.

If the same kit works on both bikes Shimano and Sram I guess it's worth it if you have 2 or 3 bikes to look after (or more if you have a family of cyclists)... You now make me consider it 🤣

If you have SRAM brakes on any of your other bikes, or you have mates who do, drop the cash and get the SRAM Pro kit. It's about half a million bucks, but so much better than any of the generics that it's worth it.

Also, I've had mine in use in a shop for 10 years and it's still going strong - I've only had to swap the hoses out once in that time, and it was a 10 minute job with a roll of vinyl hose I got from a plastics company.

Has SRAM swapped over from DOT fluid to Mineral fluid?

I'm loath to cross pollinate bleed kits between the two, but I guess a good thorough clean after use would suffice.

I have a  mineral fluid kit with multiple hoses and attachments and a DOT fluid kit with the same. Also both of them are so old they are probably teenagers and have a tiktok account.

Still Dot fluid

Are the latest Sram still dot?

Whoever decided to use a paint corrosive fluid in Sram brakes needs to get the ears boxed.

Sram has made a cheap looking guide replacement that's called the DB8

that's the only brake made by SRAM that uses mineral oil

ALL other SRAM brakes use Dot fluid

Mon Dieu 😮

According to the 'neo' hub experts and anoraks ANYTHING SRAM is the best thing since sliced bread!

My LBS quotes R250 per brake, so I'd assume a 3 year payback (inflation notwithstanding) even if I only have 1 SRAM bike and only bleed once a year.
