Grey / Silver Toyota pickpocketing around Joburg northern suburbs

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The guys doing the rounds by jumping out of a grey or silver Toyota Corolla, snatching a phone from a cyclist/ runner and then jumping back into the car are known to local security companies.

Without a case number though, they are not able to be apprehended.

If you know anyone who this has happened to, please ask them to lodge a case with SAPS and then forward the case number to CAP by calling them on 0861 227 227.

This has been going on for at least the last two months. It's been reported to the police but they haven't made any effort to catch these guys. We have even arranged a car to follow our morning rides from Seattle to make sure it doesn't happen to one of our riders.

Good day fellow cyclists (Security Concerns)

In light of the ongoing muggings and attempted muggings along Cedar Road and other Fourways areas, Thompsons Security has kindly offered to provide a security vehicle escort into the cradle. Starting from Cedar Square entrance all the way to Pedal and Sprocket intersection.

There will be 2 time slots, identical on both Saturdays and Sundays.

The departure point is Cedar Square Entrance (off Cedar Road) at 6:30 and and 7am.

If you would like to utilise this very generous offer, please be ready to leave at the above times. The vehicles will leave at exactly 06:30 and 07:00.

We will be piloting this operation from Saturday 22 April. The security car will be trying to drop off the first group at Pedal & Sprocket and still get back to Cedar Square by 7 for the second group, so the first few attempts might need a little tweaking, but having the car moving up and down the road has additional benefits of more visibility, so it will hopefully work well with timing.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please drop an email to luis@ferreiras.co.za

All traffic laws will be followed, most importantly red robots to keep us all together and with the car.

Be safe, be vigilant, and look after each other out there.

Its the same as the group of 4 guys that have been robbing people at gun point on the spruit for years. The same every... single... time... early mornings, sometimes late afternoon. 3 or 4 guys, 1 with a gun, always in 1 of 2 spots, one robbery reported every 4-6 weeks.
This has been going on for more than 4 years and nothing has been done. Cant be difficult to catch these guys...
