IndieVelo

Woah, did not see that coming

To answer the question that immediately springs to mind:

For the duration of the northern hemisphere winter, IndieVelo will remain free to all users, just as it is today. And, it’ll continue getting updates too as usual. However, sometime after March 2025, IndieVelo will only be available on the TrainingPeaks Premium Tier ($19.99/month or $124.99/year). That tier also has a 30-day trial as well. Of course, a heck of a lot of athletes simply get TrainingPeaks as part of plans their coach has subscribed to.

So it's still free, for now...

This is pretty sad news to be honest - we knew costing was coming, but 20 USD a month is too much. Yeah you get Trainingpeaks as well and that is useful for some people, but looks like I'll need to check out MyWhoosh again (sigh).

I'll keep using it for a race once or twice a week, until it isn't available free anymore.
Then will check what the pricing options are.

Trainerroad is already over $20pm, so another $20 would be a hard No.

Daaaamit ! - Just as i was getting into it, they come along and spoil the party.

Oh well - I suppose Rainmaker is right - these platforms have to start charging at some point or they end up in the trash can. At least now IndieVelo will have long term sustainability

I'll run it until they start charging & then re-evaluate - Not interested in TrainingPeaks - Intervals.icu gives me the data i need. But i suppose that will get sold off or start charging a fee as well sometime in the future.

I only wish they would offer switch on switch off monthly subs like ZWIFT for those months its not beng used.

Maybe a tier system

1. Full Training Peaks premium + Virtual training and racing = Full suite

2. Virtual training and racing = 1/2 suite

3. virtual training = 1/3 suite

its all about options

But looking at TrainingPeaks pricing, the prem fee is about $10.42 / month if you pay annually - If that includes IndieVelo, well then sign me up Scotty

Another alternative

If you take a bit of time to work out how to configure it, you can run Zwift Offline for Free https://github.com/zoffline/zwift-offline, You ride solo as it acts as a server on your own machine, but you can add bots as well as your past self to add a few more people on the route.

Personally I use this with structured workouts only as I am not into racing or free riding with lots of people/bots, IDT is for me is just for my structured workouts that are on the Trainingpeaks platform, but could just be the same if using Intervals.icu or another platform.

If you have a training plan and do structured workouts, you can download the workouts (ZWO format) to a folder and then they can automatically sync to Zwift.  Also takes a bit of configuring https://zwiftinsider.com/backing-up-and-syncing-zwift-workouts/

All the zwift workouts and plans are available on Zwiftofline :)

For those that haven't read the MyWhoosh thread yet, I started using Biketerra.com last week.
It's currently offered as a free version and a $5/mo option.
Nothing graphic-wise to write home about, but it works directly with a few platforms.

Yeah, there is a substantial difference between their monthly and yearly subscription!
I don't currently have any use for TP, but I think this would work out cheaper than the iV Founders Club annual amount?

Anyway, at least 5 months to see how this plays out. Meantime we can test the various options that are available or will no doubt pop up.

I messed around in it this afternoon - Pretty cool - I uploaded my modders route from a few weekends back - wow !! some of the inclines i could hardly pedal but i suppose one needs to get the settings dialed in

But I also loaded the pacer activity from IV - basically feels exactly the same.

Haha the graphics really suck though - I was riding through a tunnel only to rise up through the roof onto another road above - Dont really care for the graphics as long as i get the training session in at the zone I want.

Nice alternative

Don't expose zoffline to the internet, it was not designed with that in mind.

Will the thread title change to TrainingPeaks Virtual now, or only in March 2025? 😊😂
