Hi Members

I am keen on buying a smart trainer such as the Wahoo Kickr 2.0. I don't have much time to ride, so what better way to do some indoor stuff to replicate road cycling when I have time in the evenings.

What I would like to find out is if I use Zwift or Rouvy, can you replicate the elevation work out on screen so it feels like you are outdoors?

Thanks

Regards

D

As Robert, mentioned, Fulgaz is a great option for a more realistic and less gamey experience than say Zwift, best viewed on a larger screen though,

The Wahoos are a great just be cautious around which one you get, I’ve read that some 2.0 owners have longterm belt issues but these are few and far between.

I have been using a Kickr for a couple of years.  Couple of random thoughts:

- the lack of support on the older Kickrs is something to consider.

- I went with Zwift because it was the package with the lowest system spec requirements back then.  I have since had to upgrade to Win10, as Zwift no longer runs on anything less.  Been having more and more issues with the Ant+ drivers on Win10 ... eventually bit the bullet and got a Win11 setup for the trainer, much better experience.

- The month to month subscription of Zwift fits us very well.  I will be cancelling in September, as I can then get enough time in the saddle outside.

- riding outside is just so much better !!!

- "Replicate elevation" .... the smart trainers use a braking system to make you work harder on inclines.

- Downhills DONT replicate riding outside !!  There are no "free km" in these trainers ...... Takes some getting used to, but it pays off and you can see improvement when you ride outside.

I MUCH prefer riding outside .... glad I have the option to ride inside when the weather and/or work keeps from riding outside.

I have a Kickr 4 for sale in very good condition.😎

Have a look at Mywhoosh which is free, also went through lots of updates and sorted lots of bugs.

Recent feedback seems more positive than a few weeks ago.

Busy downloading and installing.

3,5Gig initial download.

Start it .... and another 10Gig download, V3.3.4 ....  :cursing:

Ooo well, let's see if it is worth it.

Setting up your profile .... :P  This is ageism :whistling:  Apparently MyWhoosh thinks nobody was born before 1970 .....

Okayyyy .... finally started MyWhoosh (MW).  Take a moment to play through some of the options.  Select a short free ride course to test MW ..... BOOM ... system crash ....

Okay okay ... let's restart, even though MW did not ask for a restart after installing ....

Let's try again.

"Your email is not verified" .... my magtag man .... How about actually letting your clients know what you want ?

Finally in the saddle and going ....  Let's take a moment to get to know the screen layout.

Initial thoughts -

. The screen seems slightly jerky ... maybe trying too much graphics ?  (graphics was set to auto)  Did get a bit better as the ride went on.

. Same effort (by feel), and I am about 5km/h slower in MW than on Zwift .... would need a fresh pair of legs to properly test this, I did say "first impressions"  (already did a recovery ride earlier tonight after a century ride yesterday)

. On another thread about MW a Hubber commented about the numbers game .... people enjoy Zwift due to the "comradery" of seeing other riders ..... The EMPTY roads immediately reminded me of this !!

. Finish ride .... ride can be loaded to MyWhoosh, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Todays Plan ...... Wait what !!  How do I load this to GARMIN ??????  THIS is where I accumulate all my exercise data .... :thumbdown:

REALLY HOPE they do include a function to load rides to Garmin !!!!!  Rest of the stuff is much of a muchness ..... this may well be an alternative during summer when I stop Zwift.

Will be testing it a bit more ..... but without the Garmin load function I am not going to do any real miles on it.

Maybe these thoughts have some value to a few Hubbers, without having to download 15 Gig ...

Thanks for the proper review, I do a dual recording with my Garmin or alternatively you can log onto mywhoosh site and download the FIT file (you will get a fit file that was recorded with an edge 1030) so even vitality compatible.

Uhm ... how do you do the dual recording ?

I know I can use my watch to do a heart rate recording, not sure how to capture the distance ....

PS - I did send an email to MyWhoosh ... it may go straight to the bin without passing through the pam folder, or they may actually take note .... 🤪
