Cycling 4020 Posted September 24, 2023 Share Hi everyone, I've been looking at some bikes and some of them has a clean carbon fibre look. Does anyone know how to create such a texture ( my bike is carbon) so should I strip it or what advice can you give me? Is there any shop in Gauteng that could do such work and what are the pricing on this. Regards Edrich.
Barry Posted September 24, 2023 Share Stripping the paint might just leave you with a frame that has an ugly layup and imperfections that are filled with carbon filler. Stripping the UV protection from your frame will decrease the life of the epoxy/ frame. Zebra and Mongoose!

The carbon layup will need to be done from the beginning of the process. Is why bikes like Cipollini and Time as examples are so beautiful because the weaving is done according to their own process. They also specifically design their bikes to showcase the weave. Most manufacturers don’t do this though so the weave is normally not that neat as it will be painted over anyway. You could possibly have a combination of paint with a few flashes of bare carbon parts. Best would be to speak to a professional.
MORNE Posted September 24, 2023 Share Are you talking about A: Or B: MOST carbon anything on bikes look like B under the paint. Painting over A should carry the death sentence. Cycling 4020, Me rida my bicycle and ChrisF

Yeah unfortunately that's dictated by the developer, some have nice Carbon woven patterns others not so much. So yeah, you can have someone professionally take it off (the paint job) I guess and have them let you known how it looks but definitely not assured you will have a nice looking carbon layout. Those depicted on the chat of the pyga and the other frame usually are designed to look good. So they will. Either way, Goodluck that was just my advice on your question. Kind regards

You might be able to get a carbon specialist to wrap your frame. Or maybe you get a vinyl wrap like they do for cars. That probably wont be quite as robust though. Painting over A should carry the death sentence. I had a Trigon that from new was like your pic B, but was partly sprayed grey and it was STUNNING. I way prefer pic B and find pic A style outdated. I plan on sanding my Matt Black MTB down and doing a high gloss clear and partial paint sometime soon. I think that as long as you use a UV clear you should be fine. There are lots of boats and motorcycles as well as cars with clear coated carbon. Lately I'm quite liking the mattish clear carbon that the likes of Redbull F1 use for eg on their sidepod intakes.... To the OP: Good luck with your quest. Don't consider wrapping etc, it's not practically feasible. Cycling 4020 and Nickyr
