I have some work to do on the BB's on my MTBs. Threaded with an outside diameter is 44mm and 16 notches. For the life of me, I don't know what I need.

thanks

If it's thread-together, better to get two? (I have both and the thread-together one side is prone to turning when you tighten so with just one it's difficult to get decent torque into it)

Didn't shimano  change their BB cup  size so you  need the little plastic reducer that fits into the old shimano standard BB tool?

As far as I know they sold those reducers with the BBS

Yes, they do sell the reducer with the BB (at least the Ultegra one did).

But you will need a spanner to fit that reducer into.

Indeed, hence me saying you will need the reducer that fits into the standard Shimano BB tool that droo said he would need...... you likely need both?

I have a PRO tool that has the bb ring, with a set of plastic adaptors.

They did indeed, but the 44mm one is the OG HT2 one. No plastic doofer required.
