I read about this yesterday.  A beacon for others with anger management issues. Breath,  reflect, respond positively.

A beacon? A lesson more like.
People are responsible for their actions, particularly when the consequences leave a spouse dead and two children traumatised for life. Not too mention the fallout for friends and family.
For sure it's tragic all round, but the perpetrator sits at the end of line.

With Rohan Dennis retiring in the same year of this terrible family tragedy, I can only hypothesise how he was struggling:

So many professional athletes struggle with repurposing, resetting and developing a new 'identity' after retiring. From tour buses, Olympic glory, team bubble environments and 20 hr weekly training blocks to almost nothing on the calendar can inevitably create all kinds of life stress, inner turmoil and existential angst.  The pathway to retirement, whether at 65 or in the 30s after a career in sports, is best handled with care and dilgence.

Hoping there's a beautiful and soft support system for the kids after all this time in the media spotlight and losing their Mama, Melissa Hoskins.

Champion cyclist sentenced over Olympian wife's car death

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2jv71nd43o

Think he needs to apologise by now, but seems to have the remorse that his actions caused. Accidents happen, fatal accidents a bit more rare.

I know a guy who got driven over by his girlfriend. They were fighting, she wanted to drive off, he lay down in front of the car to stop her. She didn't realise this and drove over him. He woke up in hospital with multiple serious injuries as both wheels went over him, and he got flipped over between the two. She woke up with a massive hangover and no recollection.

He forgave her, and they worked their stuff out.

Neither of them drink anymore. Which is good because they are married with kids.

He is doing exceptionally well now.

For every crazy story there can be a good one. I think we can move on from this one now.

Interesting that the anger management issue was mentioned by his mother in law. Anger management is a very common problem that many(if not most) pro tour riders "struggle" with. Surely all white powders can't be Grandpa's .......................................

Seriously, move on from this now? Seriously? One of them is dead. So she can't anything. But let's all just move on. I obviously didn't know either of them. But the grieving family cannot move on. Maybe they should take your advice.

I think he means us, as in those sitting thousands of KM away passing judgement and gossiping with no real connection the the families, case or after effects.

Those directly involved have a long road ahead, but 'we' can let it go now that the sentencing has been passed and the whole debacle is essentially now concluded for the masses. Anything added from here is just opinion and gossip on something we really aren't wholly privy to.

Like when your dad gets sick and everyone offers help and then he dies and everyone fusses but then you almost hear nothing from anyone after the memorial because it's done for them. The family will still grieve, those closest will still miss him, but the masses who just dipped their heads in when appropriate can move on.

I have no vested interest in this case. I just personally think it is an insensitive comment. I have no bad will or agenda.

The reason I deleted my comment is because this is an open forum and we are all allowed our own opinion. I am no one to tell him what he may think. So apologies to Shebeen.

Your comment got replied anyway, but no problems.

There comes a time when this is no longer a cycling relevant story, he's no longer in the industry (right?). Maybe we're not there yet.
