Danger Dassie Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Pretty swak, can’t help but think that a Backabuddy campaign may also be a good help? “South African mountain bike racing star, Luke Moir, has been left stranded without a team just weeks before the 2025 XCO racing season starts and is searching for support. The new Swiss team he was signed for hasn’t secured its title sponsorship, leaving Moir and other team members scrambling for support” cont…. https://www.treadmtb.co.za/sa-mtb-star-left-stranded-needs-support-to-race-in-2025/ justinafrika, DieselnDust, mazambaan and 3 others 3 3
ajnkzn Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) Bleak. Hopefully some local brands see an opportunity. Pyga, South, CSixx, Thirteen / Rush (importers) etc could put together a proper bike and for the cost of one big corporate’s golf day his travel for the year would be sorted. ians H2Sport Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This is so unfortunate. Luke had a great year in 2024 and deserves to be looked after properly. If Candice achieved what she did as a privateer, surely with the right support, Luke can too. He is a very likeable young man and hell he can race a bike. He would be a great ambassador for anyone who is interested in putting some cash into the sport Mike Dewing, Danger Dassie, justinafrika and 2 others 5
DieselnDust Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Yeah this is a really *&^% situation, So much was promised re the team and they just kept getting strung along and now its down to this. This kid deserves all he support he can get. He's our best prospect to step in to Alan's shoes in the near future. #comeonsaffas DodgeB, Danger Dassie, justinafrika and 2 others 5
rock Posted February 13 Posted February 13 curious as to who the potential sponsor was - not the name, they don't need any free PR, just wondering if it was bike industry related or out of the industry?

I know "budgets are allocated" etcetc, but wonder why stranded riders don't get snapped up for a bargain? The cost to go from 2 to 3 riders for instance is not an extra 50%. DieselnDust 1

It’s got more to do with equipment and the servicing and maintenance thereof. There’s is fairly big hit on added airfare for an extra two bikes for one extra rider. And accommodation that’s usually booked at the start of the season to take advantage of early booking discounts. XCO team budgets are a lot tighter than a road team so many teams are reluctant to over commit on unplanned additions. that’s the one challenge. Once you’re there and racing consistently, by midyear some teams may have additional capacity to support a privateer, e.g. Candice and CFR. The hurdle is to get there an be competitive and that requires careful planning, really broad shouldered support and a strong resolve. It's not just budgets but also logistics, teams are often on the bleeding edge into budget etc ... So even what may appear to be a bargain carries a significant consideration and might be a risk to both the team and rider. Not something that can be snapped up without an angel investor, unfortunately. nonky 1

I find it hard to believe that not one team picked her up after all her performances last year.

DieselnDust Posted Monday at 10:04 PM Posted Monday at 10:04 PM So Mr Lang’s failed MTB team is finally in the news. I don’t know whether Lang is a scamster or just plain stupid link to article by clicking on stupid above. Thomas Litscher is also affected. Reckons he needs €15000 to compete. The advantage of living in Europe. Can just drive all night and go race. I wish we had Saffas living In like…. Andorra who could help Luke. andydude and nonky 1 1
