Anyone know if the Glen road from camps bay to lions head has been repaired? Is it rideable?

it has always been rideable just closed to traffic but be aware there was a mugging of a cyclist there a few days ago, on a scooter nogal.

But has the road been repaired? Thinking of coming up kloofnek and then down the glen. Will probably be early morning so dont want to descend down into stones and potholes. Perhaps better to just use one of the other roads to get back to main road.

I have not ridden there in ages, there was definitely stones & rocks in the road, there was even a section of tar missing. If it's still closed then chances are it was never officially repaired. Hopefully someone that has ridden there recently can advise.

I rode it this evening (small motorbike), safe to CLIMB it on a bicycle, but be VERY careful going downhill at speed, the road IS pretty good in most places, BUT there is one roughish patch with a ‘lip’ to it, if going down, be extra vigilant.

Paradoxically enough, and NOT being a Civil Engineer, the Chinese/Japanese/Taiwanese WOULD have fixed it in an afternoon, with a shortish Tea-Break included….

Living at the foot of Chapmans Peak on and off for 30 years, i have seen how quickly Entilini (and others) fix MAJOR issues. I found it embarrassing that in a year, it has not been fixed.

I didn't believe the 24 month project plan when it was announced, the same storm klapped the botrivier N2 bridge and that was a lightning quick repair.

but it seems, this is somehow more complicated. I reckoned the smart people would have made a plan.

Probably more complicated to repair as the mountainside is unstable where half the road washed away. Probably not that important either - who cares if a few Clifton residents need to spend 5 more minutes going up Geneva Drive?

It would be cool if they just patched up the tar on the one side and made it a car-free walking/riding/skating route!

Frequently see walkers, skateboarders and other recreational activities happening there so I suppose it was just a matter of time. Also, delivery motorbikes use it as a shortcut.

Yeah, it’s a bit ridiculous it’s taking this long. Another winter coming up and the road will most likely take further damage.

One of my favourite climbs in the cape as well so really disappointing this.

doesn't matter how complicated it is to fix, nobody is working there ever. So as long as nothing is being done it won't repair itself. Which is cool by me because it means we have one lekker closed road to train on. I've done multiple training sessions there, most of the time on the gravel bike though.

We used to have a similair thing with vissershoek until they put gates and fences on it, hopefully this isn't the fate of the glenn

Selfishly I hope it never gets fixed. It’s a great NMT link between town and Clifton. It’s perfect for doing climbing intervals on the bike. I’ll take that over the extra 5min it takes me to get to the beach by car😆

I believe the repairs are rather complicated because they essentially have to build a bridge on the side of the mountain and it’s part of Sanparks land, so environmental impact assessments will cause even further delays.

This is all well and good but because the road is now deserted, we’ve got muggings happening in the area.

mmmh everytime I did intervals on that road it was pretty busy, and of all the users there, me as a cyclist doing intervals was probably the least vulnerable, there people walking their dogs, old people walking, etc, etc. Not sure the 1 mugging reported here is enough to categorise the glen as a hotspot just yet, hopefully it doesn't become one (although I've had a couple of times some very very strong impressions on some people walking down there, thinking they looked dodgy AF and I should probably go train elsewhere, I think in early hours on week days, where it's dark and not many people are around)
