Quick one have you taken a wheel dishing tool and double checked that the rim is sitting center of the hub? It is a common thing that a wheel builder forgets

Yes, my wheel sits dead centre on my friends Spez Tarmac SL3 and his wheels are also dead centre.

I just can't believe that Naked insurance company can say that Giant manufactured hundred of thousands if not million of frames with a defected rear stays where the wheels sits scew and nobody complained about it.

I am also with Naked. I had made use of their tow truck twice without issue.

However I have heard nothing but horror stories about them refusing pay out claims. I am actually needing to move my policy to someone else. I do understand they are underwritten by Hollard, unless that has changed

I have escalated the matter to Hollard now for them to assist as Naked and their service providers are doing everything within their power not pay out a claim. Next thing they will probably say it due to the helmet or gloves that I am wearing.

Hi Underachiever, were you able to reclaim the excess? Or did Cyclesure at least mention the likelihood of getting the excess refunded?

Good question!!

This was certainly on my mind, but my Cyclesure excess was quite low, so I forgot to pursue during the Q4 corporate madness. But the excess was not volunteered by Cyclesure.

That is what they do to make life difficult.  Giving you more hoops to jump through so that you end up not claiming.

I have made some close-up pics. The hanger has been changed with a new hanger as per their recommendation. Some of the carbon is starting to come off as well.

Insurance is a scam. Reading this thread, and anecdotal evidence really makes one wonder what the point of it all is. Why do we willingly part with our money only to put up with absolute BS when it comes time to claim?

This is why I use a broker and don't make use of these "cheap" insurance companies. I have only once had a claim rejected because of red tape and nit picking on the insurers behalf when they changed my comprehensive policy to a third party policy without explicitly informing me but hiding it in the policy wording. A few months later I had an accident with the vehicle and they used their chance to duck out of responsibility. This was Dial Direct. I have changed to Santam since and I refuse to talk to any other insurers since that day in 2011.

I received feedback from Giant.

"Giant does not produce defective frames. There has been no recall on any Propel version or generation produced for our market."

So looks like they are still trying to do their best not to pay out.

This is just sickening , will consider moving from them .
Previous experience also left a bitter taste .

Now Naked and service providers are back tracking and their service providers wants a telephonic conversation on the report and their decision that they made.

Wondered what happened on accusing Giant for making defective frames?

Just got a call from RAW asking weird question, is the non drive side metal or carbon (you see in the photo it's carbon), how many times did I remove the back wheel ( like their is a limit on how many times you can do it), what do I think is the cause, did I replace the wheel set ( well prevous set had a different name on and the new ones is a different make and has carbon hubs? Was the wheels imported ( well 99% of the components are imported unless Giant and Shimano has factories in South Africa that I am not aware of).

I said I replace all the components on the bike except for the handlebars, everything else was replaced.

They also asked if I fitted the wheels myself? Are supposed to wait for your lbs to come out on a Sunday to take of your wheels to fix a flat?

Bear with me .... have you ever attended a "basic skills" session ?  Heck, with all the Parktool and GCN training videos it is easy enough to claim basic training

Local Spez shop often present these ...

It would mess with their agenda if you can point out any such training ..... (not that any training should be needed to fit a wheel)

Well I had my own bike shop where I build bikes like Bianchi's and Merida to name a few for a couple of years. So I know how to fit a a wheel.
