Howzit everyone.

I have been enjoying this "free" trial that Strava had going on, was lekker to see segment details etc. Got me wondering if it might not be worth it to subscribe to the app. As a Garmin user I wonder if I won't get more use out of their app?

Are you using one of the two or both? Any negatives or positives?

I enjoy Strava premium and although I am a loyal Garmin user, I have not seen anything that compels me to pay for connect+, which seems like a scummy cash grab to me.

Strava premium is worth it to me, it's a device-agnostic place for me to track progress and unlock achievements to stay motivated.

Strava premium nearly killed my love of cycling. Although I am a weekend warrior at best, I am competitive and I found myself chasing segments and stuff that I could never beat. Also chasing my own times.

I have tried both and am currently not subscribed to either anymore. Both of the sets of features I just do not need currently. Garmin+ was just an AI telling me that my HRV was normal last night, well done. And Strava premium is only useful if you care about the segments, which I just do not currently. Everything else I can get for free with either Garmin (Routes), or with intervals.icu (fitness, better analytics, more stats, etc).

So for me it is not worth paying just for segments.

I enjoy chasing my times on some segments. Kind of keeps me motivated and I like to push myself every now and then. But all the other extra info is wasted on me.
I would explore the maps tho and look for new hiking/riding trails so that could be usefull. Heatmaps here helps a lot as trails are not maintained so to see where people work out helps me decide if I should yake my machete or not 😂

Strava premium is definitely nice to have. I as specially like the rout planing and live segments. Only reason I canceled my subscription is because when I immigrated, the pricing in my region is more than 3x what I paid in ZAR. But if I go somewhere new I’ll probably use that to justify the bitter pill.

as a Vitality member I pay R500 for Strava Premium per year. I get to spy on anyone and check how many Coldplay concerts they attend. The black mail money isn't worth it though because the 1km privacy radius makes it hard to tell exactly where the bike that doesn't exist is being stored.

Garmin Connect is nice and serves it purpose but  I can't find any propective DC teammates using Connect + so there's that...

So Strava premium and Connect is fine to upload to Vitality
