SA pro Roadies abroad thread

since the demise of MTNQ/DDT the amount of SA road cyclists on the world scene has diminished. Zero ZA riders at TdF this year for the first time in a long time for instance.

 

There are a few out there still in world tour teams,  (Maincheese, Gibbo, hatherly). Quite a few bubbling under in the various feeder teams to the big stage.

So as the scene gets a bit more obscure, a thread to highlight some achievements and performances. (feel free to merge if another exists)

AFAIK he has been plagued a bit with injury of late. Knee issues since Paris Nice and was up to ride TDF this year but due to injury missed out. Hopefully Vuelta in support of Mads?

Byron is now 2nd in GC with Thursday and Saturday also hilltop finishes and Sunday a flat TT. Let's see if he can ride this wave all week! 🤞

Is there any news on Ryan and Louis for next year? Any chance of them moving to Q36.5 maybe?

I read somewhere that Louis is retiring at the end of this year.  Not sure if it's confirmed yet.

looking at the raw figs, he does seem past his peak and is currently the 378th ranked rider. He fits in the experienced pro cat, and hasn;t gone the superdom AYates route - not sure who would pick him up (and from that article  - if he really wants it)
