i agree the price of entry fees are still reasonable in CT. but let see what the increase will be come Spring season. my complaint is the fixed cost a cyclist must pay to ride as a licensed club member in the ppa league. ppa have also expanded the criteria to ride league ie a - f seeded riders qualify as opposed to a - c seeded riders of a year or so ago. have the ppa now realised that "leagues" are income generating without having an additional expense attached

take this for example:

if you are a licensed cyclist belonging to a club and want to ride PPA League events it will cost you ?R2 000 for the year before you have sat your bum down on your bike.

PPA member ? R200 (can't remember the exact fees)

Club member ? R200 (are there clubs that charge less?)<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

CSA  license ? R150

League numbers & entry ? R600 (12 months / 12 events and that is if it hasn't increased lately)

Race entry fee  - R80 x 12 = R960 (average entry fee)

my 2 cents - why are we the only region where there are 2 cycling bodies running the sport iow ppa /club membership/ CSA license / League fee are all duplications of each other. What does the R600 league entry fee get you ? a race number and frame number?

I just got my leaugue spring entry and I must say that it is really not that bad as u make it out to be.

The costs has also been quite reasonable and the increases has been way below the normal going rate.

Yes it has become more expensive for u because u have to drive to races and petrol has skyrocketed.. So lets differenciate between what actually increased and what has not. The actual PPA/Licence fee/entry fees has not really increased. Entry fees is bout the same as last year.

So yes races might become more selective for the costs to get there and back, but the entry costs for races has not really increased.

Please be a bit more objective. The prices for races like 94.7 is high but that surely has nothing to do with normal leaugue races. U are not forced to ride the Argus/94.7.

As a member of the Outriders Cycle Club we are seeing more and more people attending our club rides because besides the costs but also weekend family time is cut short. I dont believe that it will be the death of funrides but most riders are just going to be a lot more selective about which events they attend. mdk5552008-08-27 23:14:20

Thumbs%20Up

mmm Clearly racing a few time's a year is not 4 me any longer - "almost like a nice to have" kinda thing. I'm only doing the R4V & that's my lot -

No interest in 94.7 or any of the other rip-off's !! Ermm

R2K for fitness per year should be considered very minimal .... You are only paying R80 per race (very cheap IMHO) check the Gauteng race entry fees!

Compare to any other sport/hobbies and you will see that R2K is not so bad.

Not only the cycling my friend but general aspects of WP lean towards a ripoff!! Never order a perlemoen starter whatever you do!!

Go to Japan and order that same perlemoen.  Then you'll see how blerrie cheap the Cape is!!!

Amazing how some WP cyclists are; moaning about R2K per year for racing! Yet the same cyclsits, I bet you, has the best cycling components on their bikes? So spending the huge $$ at components is not a problem ... Yeah sure, your earning potential is much better in Gauteng than WP; but life is about choices!!!

To me its really isnt expensive atall. People are moaning about joining PPA, its like what? R200 or so a year and they hold races and without them we wouldnt be racing so to me it seems like it goes hand in hand.

Maybe if we bought less fancy gadgets on our bikes and trained harder it wouldnt be so expensive? To race a local MX race in the cape is R360 entry for 1 class and additoinal R200 for the 2nd class. To get your bike preped for a race and petrol/food etc you looking at close to R4000 per race and you race up to 2 locals a month and a National costs you close to R9000 to do up country and if you ride the premier classes your heats are 20min long and you ride between 2 and 4 heats day.

Cycling costs nothing to race you should be greatfull its so cheap.

my argument is not about me.....I am talking about a person out there that bought a secondhand bike and just wanna ride for fun and see if he like the sport....to fork out R100 for a 30km-40km ride is CRAZY!!!!! He does not belong to a club, PPA or anything so he must buy a temp lic with that just to ride the race. Frikkin crazy!

Fair enough and comment but to 'test the waters" is a small price once or twice to pay to see if they like it. Its the same as buying a movie ticket for R60 or whatever they cost you dong know if you going to like the movie but you pay a stupid price and go anyway.

At least in Japan you will get service in line with the price you are paying, unlike the WP where you get crappy, slow, lippy service from a wannabe actor masquerading as a waitron.
