Since when is this?

Participants must complete the course in 6 hours or less, in order to qualify as finishers and to receive a medal. Participants who fail to reach the cut-off points in a specified time will be withdrawn and will not be permitted to continue. If it is deemed by the organisers that you will not reach the cut off point on the route within a reasonable time (for example you are pushing your bike) you may, at the discretion of the organisers, be withdrawn and not permitted to continue. Cut-off times will be published in the race pack and will be strictly adhered to. Support services will similarly be withdrawn for that section of the route and the route will be opened to normal traffic.

I reckon there should be different medals, say gold for the top 10 finishers, silver for the sub 3 people and the normal medal for the rest of the field that makes the cut off.

Mampara, I think this it has been like that for very long.  I don't think it is new.

Daemon, I have to agree with you there.  Always thought that there should be some form of motivation like they have with the comrades marathon.

It will be difficult to manage the handing out of colour medals (such as Comrades), the 1st ten is easy enough as this is across the line, but not for 3 hours as even in the last batch, which leaves 2-3 hours after the 1st guys get off there are sub 3's. Perhaps rather issue gold, silver and bronze certificates based on the official timing.

My first 94.7 time was 6:15 in 2002 on an old MTB Embarrassed

After a bit of training in 2005 I did it in 2:46 Big%20smile (oop's that's self promotion but at least i didn't mention which club I belong to).Wink

I like the idea of graded medals but as Scotty says it would be difficult to manage. Maybe they should skip the medal and use the money to issue a more fancy certificate which they could post.

Anyone planning on doing it slower than 6 hours is just plan mad.  If you aren't fit enough to make the cut off, your poor backside will definately not be fit enough to sit on your saddle for 6 hours + !!!

Not true the 6 hours guys will push there bikes after St Andrews to the top of the M1, also past the lionpark, also maybe on witkoppen.

That explains how anybody can do it so slowly, because 15km/h is running speed and averybody does 50km/h + on the downhills.
