I bought stuff on the 8 August from Germany and also from Aliexpress, arrived last week, even though items were scanned into the country on the 11 September.  Seems there is a mountain at JIMC at the airport and no staff to move it and those that do move it slowly.

So you have no option but to wait!!

All the mail centres are a dog show. I ended up walking into Durban Mail Centre at 3:30 one afternoon after waiting for a month for my goods to be processed. Not a single person was working! Once I started randomly picking up parcels (which are literally lying in piles all over the place) a few people appeared to see what I was doing. LOL. My parcel was still locked in the container it arrived in 4 weeks prior, and it took more than a little persuasion to get them to actually do their jobs and process it. What a bloody joke!

Does anyone have any idea why I am being charged 40% customs for a package of brake pads & quick links? And why the VAT comes to 21% of the "custom value"?

I haven't paid, so the post office is still hanging on to my parcel. How do I go about sorting this out?

Was charged 15% "Custom Dues" on a set of imported carbon wheels on top of VAT

Ordered two sets on the same day.

first one had no custom duties / second one 15%???

same supplier / same wheels / same value

SAPO via EMS.

Can anybody with more customs experience maybe confirm if this is correct, and the reason why not treated consequently .

I now paid (at Post Office) more that double on the second set than the first set, although both sets are identical? :cursing:

How can you pay more than double when you said only 15% duties were added?

Just wondering..

wheel set one : VAT (14%) only

wheel set two : VAT (14%) and Customs duties (15%)

Second payment at post office on collection was more than double than the first one ja

The 15% was levied incorrectly.

15% is on complete bicycles.

Parts components = 0%

Anybody knows if this incorrect amount can be refunded to me?

Thought you meant in total not just duties and VAT, my bad.

Yes, you definitely were not supposed to be charged the 15% duty.

Hi all

I havent ordered parts from CRC for a long time, but want to do so shortly, so please excuse my ignorance..

I am ordering the following: Chainrings, bar tape, cassette and road tyres

Will i get charged just VAT on top of the listed price? or do I need to do some other calculation on top of that?

Also, I am thinking of avoiding the Post Office disaster by doing DHL express for R100 bucks more... would that be prudent?

Extremely prudent. I ordered handlebars from CRC in October, they arrived today - not kidding.

I, personally, will NOT order from CRC if I don't DHL the package. For +-R225 (package & forex dependent) you order Tuesday & it's at your door on Friday. DHL also charges a handling fee. Can't remember off-hand the cost thereof. They'll invoice you when package go through customs and you pay before its released for delivery.

You get charged VAT at 110% of your purchase price, which is 15.4% (from 1 April 2018 that will be 16.5%). SARS also uses their exchange rate, but its not too far off.
