Final team for worlds

It is amazing how some of the hubbers have double standards or loose their objectivity. Last year Jacques Fullard was SA champ, but absolutely no one moaned when he was'nt chosen for worlds? And earlier this year did'nt some people exactly state how below standard the national champs for the women was due to the fact that there was a team in China at the time? There were actually quite a few PAGES dedicated to how pathetic the womens nationals would be and being national champ would mean jack sh!t. And I would'nt want to go to worlds anyhow if I was Malcolm. He does'nt have his team to work the other guys over. This is actually a joke. It just shows you how many armchair cyclists there are around. Sprinters doesnt stand a chance in hell at this worlds, because you have to be there to sprint in the first place you know and thats why Robert is realistic about the situation. He is still the best man for the job, but he knows what the outcome would be on a circuit like that......

Making International Headlines - from cyclingnews.com:

Hunter and Van Wyk left off South Africa worlds team

Robert Hunter (Team Barloworld) and Ronel Van Wyk (Team Konica Minolta) are two names not on the list of riders selected by South Africa for the team the nation is sending to the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, September 27-30. The federation announced its squad on its website www.cyclingsa.com August 24. No reason was given in the announcement for the omission of Hunter or Van Wyk.

Hunter became the first South African to win a Tour de France stage in July. He also finished second in the green jersey (sprint) competition. Van Wyk is the 2007 South African road race and time trial national champion.

South African National Team for the UCI World Road Championships
Elite Men: James Perry, Daryl Impey, Darren Lill, David George, Ian McLeod
U23 Men: Nolan Hoffmann, Jay Thomson, Jacques Janse Van Rensburg, Jacobus Venter
Elite Women: Marissa Van Der Merwe, Minette Naude (Allready declined), Yolandi Du Toit, Anriette Scuhoeman

Bingo! couldn't say it any better, Minette is probably the smartest girl of the lot declining the offer - the rest of the girls are just going to worlds to get their ass kicked (Anriette has gotten her ass kicked so many times she can't even count all of them and yet she still goes, I guess its almost like a status thing just to get selected so that all their fans in SA are not disappointed) NO one actually see how the girls fair in the actual race, they are way at the back hanging on for dear life just making up the numbers! to gain experience you HAVE TO RACE AT THE FRONT!

What a load of bull that all the clubs and provinces has the right to choose the selectors etc!!!!.
When in the last two years has there been a provincial club meeting in our province where we the clubs can have a say in the running of cycling? Simple question to CSA show us the nominations forms from CGC and GN with the nominations submitted.

During 2006 the current CSA board was selected. This includes selectors.

Gnc had a meeting prior to the Congress meeting [where selecters were voted for] at which it was decided who Gnc were going to vote for. At this meeting most club chairman were present.  It is your clubs chairman representing you that helped make this decision.

When it came to the voting at Congress each provinces have a number of votes they cast for every position. It is of course the same number of votes for all positions.  The number of votes are determined by the number of registered cyclists your province has. [Another benefit of belonging to a club province - you have a say in things].

Your current selectors were elected on this fair and democratic basis by the people you have voted for to represent you.

The board is not been questioned here the selectors is as the new set of selectors was done this year hence the question of what input was done by whom? To my knowledge no meetings was held to discuss this in either province.

Wow, what a discussion. I race with these girls and I'm sorry but I think Ronel has proved to be a better overall rider than Anriette. Anriette can only sit in the bunch with a tream protecting her to sprint on the finishline, wheras Ronel will actually make the race and has a lot more to give to female cycling in South Africa as a whole. I feel she really deserves to be at worlds, a lot more than Anriette any day!!

By the way, they did actually race at Sun City and did not have a tea party as was mentioned. Female riding in South Africa is finally building up and we have some decent teams now actually racing but now CSA is giving such negativity to it that I feel they might just make womans cycling worse againCry

I was also thinking Minette has just got back into cycling and gets chosen, how the hell did that happen?? There are many many other girls that have raced this whole year and proved themselves that deserve to be there before Minette. She has next year but I agree that she should not be going this year.

So even if you say Ronel is not suited to the course then Anriette sure as hell isn't as she is a worse climber than Ronel. I have to agreet hat I do think Marissa and Yolandi deserve their spot.

Just my humble opinion.

Ronel, you have a lot of female riders and people behind you who know you deserve to be there and will fight for you... I can understand why you have done what you did and really look up to you, it is a hard decision and a VERY unfair one, you have been juked one too many times because of some other peoples brown nosing and unbiasedness (if there is such a word).

I would like to know why Robyn de Groot and Lynette Burger are not in the team for Worlds?  Both gave up their time to ride for the national team in China when a lot of the big guns preferred to stay at home and ride at nationals.  They are not afraid to do some racing and are actually capable of racing in the front of the bunch. In my opinion they should both have been on the squad along with Marissa and Yolandi.

I agree with Cruxpearl, what a load of bullsh*t. Anriette stayed at home when the other riders had to ride their asses off to get UCI points. She was'nt in shape and recovering from a broken wrist. But what was RONEL's excuse for staying at home or did I miss that one.

The team that was send to China was definitely not the best that they could have chosen as team managers / sponsors were not prepared to send some riders ? so yes Robyn and them gave up their time to go, but they certainly not in the top 6 to go to worlds<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Just wonder how long it will take for everyone to realize that Anriette is just an average cyclist, without a team she is nothing

[/quote'] Ronel stayed behind to kick the Royal Princess's Arse.

To prove that she is class of the field...

but evidently the selectors, with vested interests, did not feel the same...

VP, I wouldn't go that far (i.e. Anriette).  She was good, but this year she is def not the best lady on the road!  The worst is that she hasn't really featured in the SA Classics at all.  But somewhere along the line something STINKS!!!!

CSA, WAKE UP!!!  GIVE US CHERRY!

I must admit that I don't really know how well Robyn cycles but I think you definitely make a good point here and you know these girls better than me anyday!!

Class of which field Cruxie? There was'nt any.... I agree Anriette is average, but so is the rest of SA women's elite cyclists. When did ANY of them actually perform in Europe? That includes Ronel? She just won the sprint of a boring and pathetic race at SA's. She did'nt break away so she's no more special than princess. She got SA's 3 times princess got it 7 or 8 times, but its irrelevant info. SA's means squat. And it counts for the elite men as well.

I am assuming csiad with your 4 posts that you have won many elite expert super races lately?

Rather disparaging of others efforts and echievements. I sincerely hope yours are way better to be able to make the comments you have!
