Assos all the way

They last super long (I have one pair from 2005 Cape Epic)

They are super comfortable (expecially the new S5)

I actually prefer the Uno, rather than the higher level cousins

I have only fitted Cape Storm bibs (Nitros), did not like the fit, quality and padding looked impressive. I am a big fan of Cape Storm clothing most of the time.

I have both. Have a cape storm bib that i have used for 5000+ km in the previous year. Great and durable. Did the trans baviaans in it and got a big rash. Allways thought that thats just the way it is, how can another bib possible be better....till I bought a assos uno. You cant even compare the 2!! Its just way better @ everything, long distance, short distance etc. Cant believe how many hours I actually suffered with another bib. SPEND THE MONEY!!!

my 2c

Might be setting the record here, but I have 2 pairs of Mille's that I bought in 2003! Whilst they dont look so hot anymore and the seams are parting in places, the chamois is still pretty good and they still provide good comfort for 4 hour rides. That's impressive. They were the only Assos I ever bought as I have never been able to bring myself to spend R2k+ on bibs. Having said that nothing I have bought since - mainly Endura and Sugoi have lasted even close to as long.

To slighly misquote the Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded "its like wiping your arse with silk."

Thanks for the thread, I think its just convinced me to spend the cash and buy Assos again. Just found the Uno's for EUR125 online in Germany, now just to find someone to bring them out!

Last year there was a hubber (icecream bicycle guy) who was selling Assos Bibs for a very good price, very comfy and wish i had bought more than 1.

Cape Storm are also comfy but i find the stitching came loose on both pairs fairly soon.

I got mine from these guys. Service was EXCELLENT !!! I got a phone call apologising that I wouldn't get them the next day (a Friday) and would only get them on the Monday. I had only ordered after 3pm on the Thurs so never expected them earlier.

I also got the proper Assos detergent. Its expensive, but it really makes your shorts smell nice :-) Due to the price tag, I have decided to really look after this pair. Either wash them by hand, or use the proper net provided.

Its also a matter of trying on the different ones. I tried on about 6 different makes including Cape Storm, Castelli etc and the Assos shorts are the only ones that fit me properly.

i have been riding with cape storm matrix bibs - paid a schweet R450 each at the factory shop. they are perfect for 3-hour training rides and i have done the sabie experience in them without any major problems; some discomfort started on day 4 but that was luckily the end of the race. i guess its overkill to pay the big bucks for bibs used for training rides, but spending R15k plus on entering for a 6-day event (plus all the other odds and ends) kinda makes sense to me to pay the extra money and make sure your bum lasts the entire 6-days!

Never had assos, but i'm guessing i will have the same problem i have with most european makes.... i'm 5'9" and weight 76kg, so usually a medium or even large bibs should be right for me, but im too big in the thighs for even large in most bibs are too tight. Who knows of a make that caters for this???? generally, if bibs fit my legs, they are too big everywhere else?

Mampara stated it so correctly. Your need to start with the saddle!!

I did the Epic on Anatomics with the 100 miler chamois, ZERO issues. Cost R600 at the time (2008)

I did a 300 km Audax (11 hr ride time), with a Santini Gel, no issues. Cost R900 at the time (2008)

Planning to do the 400 Audax on the new Anatomic design (orange chamois), since it did very well in shorter rides. Cost also around R600 last year

The quality of lycra on the South African products are nomally below that of the overseas stuff.

So Assos might not be the best overall value for money.
