  1. Odd, I've always found Schwalbe's to measure pretty true. However that was a Magic Mary and Hans Damph 2.35, not the more XCM focused ones.
  2. It depends who's 2.4" tyre you're talking about. There is no standard
  3. Don't think ya paranoid. I have to relube every 40km or so here on TM side and that has been with...Smoove, Squirt, Rock n Roll, MucOff, Homemade Paraffin wax stuff, etc. So ya. As for full chain clean...well depends how lazy I am in all honesty.
  4. PC1110, sometimes available at R250 on sale
  5. You spend money on the cheapest chain you can find and replace it as soon as necessary to save your cassette and chainring. IF the noise bothers you then maybe bump up a price category.
  6. You don't need an activity permit for hiking or running anywhere in TMNP, or trad climbing for that matter. Everything else you need one....even dog walking...yes I'm looking at you dog walkers who give us k@k but don't yourselves have a permit (or a leash for that matter mostly).
  7. What sidewall did you get in the Spez tyres, because GRID is going to be very similar to Snakeskin. Love my 275x2.6 Butcher Black Diamond casing out back down south. Straight line grip is unreal and it rolls just fine (or I'm a sucker for 60km rides on big bikes). So yeah as for narrow/wide....don't believe the width or try to compare the widths from manufacturer to manufacturer - so we all just need to actually be careful doing this. See it too often and few ppl have bothered to verify the manufacturer's claimed width. Maxxiss (pre 2.5 WT) had a habit of measuring up way narrower - well at least on my vernier anyway. My Schwalbe Magic Mary (Supergravity and Snakeskin [sSkin is poo except maybe up front] I had measured at their advertised 2.35). My recent Spez purchases, Butcher BD and Eliminator GRID and BD have all measured up pretty close to the 2.6 advertised actually. At present I'm running my old front Mary 2.35 SG out back and a Spez Elim 2.6 up front. In love is all I can say. I ran em the other way round for a few weeks, but the Eliminator down here doesn't make nearly as nice a rear tyre as it does a front one on our general hardpack with kitty litter over the top. I can't pretend I notice a diff between wide front narrow rear or the other way round. Pity you can't fit that Butcher in the rear...its bloody great
  8. Price vs performance...Hands down the TRP Quadiems, they are like half the price of the Hope E/V4's (at most places). They use the same pads as Shimano Saint/Zee anyway so pad availability is easy. If price wasn't an issue...Hope Tech 3 V or E4 because I have a thing for them and they are very very good brakes and spares are incredible. They are plenty powerful enough and the adjustability (IF you use it) is great. The SRAM Code's are also an option, probably the RS, but as with the Hopes..$$$.
  9. Yeah I did the order for Myles and a bunch of us a while back. I'd ridden the exact pads in my Zees for the first Kingdom enduro back in 2018 through the ultra mud connies and the pads were amazing and lasted a got 6 months post the event too. Anyway, long story short, we ordered more and tried to get the same pads again. Seemed they were the same, on paper. Turns out they are not, well not IMO anyway. They are still rad, especially considering the low price. But now a pair lasts me about a month before I dont like the feel anymore. That being said, I may just more more sensitive or ride more (hurr hurr hurr) than Moogle Still definitely worth a try. I think we paid $9 for 4 PAIRS of pads. However, locally now, the Quaxar E-bike pads seem the absolute best bang for buck.
  10. So you "cheaped" out instead of getting the Quadiems But yeah, most ppl have NOT been happy with the Slates. Recently a mate is loaning another mate's bike and it has Slates...He got serious fade out Rhodes mem side one not very long trails. Coming off his current gen Codes he was very underwhelmed too with them. Any reason why you didn't do Quadiem, or was it simply the mass? Moved from the Zee's like Jewwie has to the Quadiems and so far I am much preferring the Quadiems. Similar power but there is WAY more modulation. And hell, they can sill be had for about ~R3100 with rotors!
  11. Yep, hardly an entry level product
  12. Stiffer sole makes pedalling significantly easier. Also assists in maintanig grip/contact between pedal and foot. Well in my experience riding skate shoes and MTB specific shoes. The difference is rather large for rough stuff on a descent. Not much on smooth flow stuff, hence why you can often see slopestlyle okes just running skate shoes.
  13. Hence the last 5 words in my post There are loads of options in the R1000 +- R300 range Those Shimano's are basically the old Saints. I had them, thought they were great, tried new pedals...The Saints SUUUUUCKED hard, even compared to the cheap Giants IMO.
  14. Janos seems to have one set in stock. https://www.evobikes.co.za/product/race-face-chester-pedals/
  15. Get Stoked are the importers, here in CT.
  16. The Shimano flats are a bit, and by that I mean a LOT, naff in comparison to anything else in the similar price range.
  17. Yeah, cos Theuns got the last UK 10.5 and I got the last UK8.5 last week
  18. Yep, been using the Stamp 2's for maybe 1.5 years now. They have been great, grip is good, at LEAST comparable to my Spank Oozy Trail (and a moerse load better than the Sh1tmano Saints I had before that) I moved from (because I could not get service kits locally...even though the agents will happily sell you the pedals for over R2k). Pedal pins are easy to replace. I bought longer replacement ones at a bolt shop so I could customize the concavity. Service kits are cheap and readily available and the pedal is cheap. I have the Giant flats on my jump bike. They are perfectly functional, just fat and chonky and can't say the grip is comparable to others.
  19. A flaccid seal you say...
  20. Would dig to, but the timing of the event and distance from CT coupled with leave needing to be taken etc puts it out of reach for me unfortunately
  21. Hey now, we were on Myles' arse like white on rice about coming though, but apparently we were too late in inviting some of the peeps (3 months was not enough notice ). In his defence though, they has a trip postponed due to COVID so they had to reschedule and they did that early LD. And besides, race report from a DNF is an interesting perspective
  22. Hahahah allll good you'd have figured it out easily enough. Hadn't looked at that spreadsheet in 2 years now Should probably have checked first
  23. They had some help preparing from ppl who have stuffed up using the app before, who in turn learnt from ppl who both stuffed it up and got it right before...So they were damn smart, learn from other peoples mistakes
  24. A lot of them are built, a lot of work put in, but emphasis kept on keeping them with only what is needed to allow a rider to progress, get creative and learn to handle their bike properly. Not just sit in another berm. Yes, I saw the latest PP email.
  25. Who needs a date, let's just pick a weekend and go Preferably as long weekend though. I don't know if any of you did, but the night riding there...Wow, next level awesome!
