    Helmets?

    Smart guy that
  2. Don't underestimate yourself. 100% sure most people would ride most of it. Half the fun is struggling anyway, walking a line, deciding where to go and how. RSA has way too many flow lines unfortunately and ppl pretending a jump trail is the only technical trail thing worth building. Slower technical stuff can be incredibly rewarding and even safer and more approachable to ride
  3. Just go get that cable car ticket for Harties and multi-run the DH line I hear
  4. You, unfortunately, cannot take the 2.25 measurement as the tyre width. On the sidewall of the tyre should be embossed the actual width (in mm) and that should compare well to your caliper measurement. Don't ask me why they don't speak to one another. I've heard stories that thet printed width has to do with the height of the tyre, but haven't investigated that yet. Here's an example of my old 275x2.5 Maxass DHF DD MaxTera. In this case the 63mm corresponds well to the 2.5" stated width. But don't expext it to always be. As okes said prev...Maxass stated width and measured don't like to speak to another.
  5. Can't tell ... so don't eat A good book/resource here: https://www.takealot.com/mushrooms-other-fungi-of-south-africa/PLID52393514 Apps unfortunately wont be particularly useful, except for iNaturalist perhaps as it is the community assisting identification. But you need pics of the top of the cap, underside of the cap/gills, stipe (stem) etc etc
  6. Sorry, A2C is Axle to Crown. The rigid fork on my bike in the pic has a much longer A2C than would be idea. It lifts the front end and thereby also slackens the seat angle, making pedalling odd etc, but you can get around it. The forks are available in places. Just check google RSA or COM for rigid forks etc.
  7. Yes 40c commuter tyres. Need a shorter A2C *** though.
  8. Well the thread is specifically about frames in that price range....sooooo
  9. Not all ... https://www.transitionbikes.co.za/collections/spur
  10. From Summit OFC... http://summitbikes.co.za/index.php?controller=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=housing&submit_search=
  11. hmmm...anywhere from R30 to R100 or more. Depends on the cable...Sunrace from Sportsmans Whorehouse, R20..>Will they work? Yes. Will they fell good? Maybe. Will they last? Maybe XTR shift cables...a LOAD more. Are they worth it? No, not IMO. But i work on my bike often enough that if my shifting goes to **** i can work around it. So i guess the short answer is...you probably weren't ripped a new one at all.
  12. I figured 48k was close enough...budgets are always flexi somewhat
  13. Couldn't disagree more. But then again, perhaps some are more conditioned than others to want to smell things even if they are not there. But yes, bib lowers would be the worst. Luckily I am bibless the vast majority of the time.
  14. Interesting how ppl selectively nitpic certain points to reply to. Again, take a smell once you've hung up your kit for a day or 2 and reasssess your preconceived notions. You'd honestly be hard pressed to smell any dodgey odor if it was hung up properly post last ride at least one time. Damp clothes stuffed in a small space (i.e. even a washing basket) will be a great way for optimal smelly bacterial growth.
  15. Yep, almost never wear the same kit only once. It's irresponsible and unnecessary in a water scarce planet and especially country. Hang it up, air it out (whether in the house or in the garage draped over bikes) and re-use, at least twice IMO. The old sniff test works wonders and besides, 10min into a ride you wont notice anyway.
  16. Just rock up at Ground Zero in George https://goo.gl/maps/fBimA1A3auczsJff8
  17. Yeah, we'd planned the trip there before the enduro was announced etc. So joined for it, although I'm not really a fan of enduro events. Trails are great, such variety and also where I started riding and they really hold a special place in my heart. I'm keen to get back to Jonkers again when more stuff opens up. it's a fair trip from the CBD to ride Canaries and Firehut (although I hear Phoenix is open again )
  18. Favour the strategic use of berms mos There are PLENTY berms in Witfontein. People just don't make a berm for every piece of trail that might need a corner like they do here The trails at WF are ungraded too and that appears to make a massive difference to the local's riding. You'll see almost complete noobs heading down trails people would just ride past in CT because of their "official" grading. Sure they may walk a section or two, but who doesn't and they have the biggest damn smiles doing it
  19. Honestly, skip GRTP and just go ride in George around Witfontein. There is about a 5/10min difference in the drive, but the trails are by FAR and away superior So, IMO, MTB
  20. Damn straight.
  21. At least I wasn't the only dumbass doing the 45km on a 180F/170R bike
