  1. No, you need to be thankful he did not have both hands on your shoulders 😂
  2. I always have a chuckle at this. last motor dealership I worked for I’d joke with the security when they did this. Sometimes if ask them not to open to wide or the ma would jump out the boot. or other times I’d ask them if they’re checking if I was hiding a car in the boot.
  3. On the subject of a few pints after sport. played my first ever padel game the other day ( I’m ashamed to admit it). before the game was even up, a waiter from the club house approached and was pushing beers and tequilas. Encouraging us with specials. the group I was with, even though they are big drinkers, were fortunately not enticed, but it did not stop the waiter for continuing to try. granted his job is to push the stuff and he’ll get a bigger tip, but that it was socially acceptable to do so is a problem.
  4. This is spot on. Zero respect for anyone is the crux of many issues we face in this country.
  5. Have to agree with you on the restrictions. reading comments on X about alcohol consumption and driving, it’s as if there is something wrong with you if you DONT drive drunk. but, again, it boils down to the will to do anything about it by the law enforcement. We have the laws, but they are simply not enforced.
  6. And a bunch of other also injured in that. one of the gents killed has the same name as a mate, who was also cycling in the area this morning. gave me a bit of a scare, but he is physically ok. His group was about an hour behind this one.
  7. on this mornings group ride I had a quite chuckle at the sound of a fellow riders hub we were going just the right speed, at just the right distance from a wall, with me just the right distance away from him, that for a brief second or 2, his hub sounding like a duck quacking
  8. catching up on this thread and came across this post it is spot on, just this week had a facebook friend bemoaning about cyclist frequenting his favourite coffee shop in Canada.
  9. You sound like a motor biker with a loud exhaust. They use the same justification. and then they sit at a traffic light on a Sunday revving the valves out of the engine and think everyone is enjoying the racket.
  10. I’ve done a good number of rides with the bibs now. first of all I only got 1 bib, turns out when the wife did the order, temu did temu things and she landed up only ordering 1 they are made rather well, sizing is good, and the all important getting my junk out the front to pee is not a problem. unfortunately though the chamois design doesn’t work great with my specific butt/saddle ergonomics and it starts to hurt on the left side after about 30 minutes as well as a small amount of chaffing happening after 90 minutes.
  11. Proper Pita bread yes, my folks used to bring 5-10 packs in their luggage every time they went to Greece. you can get Greek pita bread here in some places, but it’s just not the same for some reason.
  12. Chappies is very wide and very safe, compared to what I've just seen in Mauritius. I had contemplated renting/borrowing a bike for my stay there, but after seeing the roads and the way people drive I decided very quickly to rather find other ways to get some activity done during the day. We complain here, and rightfully so, but other places just seem to have is so much worse.
  13. what software does it synch with ?
  14. This is only those caught, AND arrested/fined, take into account, as stated previously, those that offered up cooldrink money, and then the thousands (yes this is what I guestimate) that did not even go through the roadblocks. My conservative guestimate is that you can easliy take that 227 number, double it and then add a zero to the end and you still wont have the total of all the peophols in JHB that drove under the influence during that period.
  15. Has anyone had their valve break off like this was replacing sealant, could not get the tyre to seat with a track pump (nothing unusual), so went up to the local petrol station and used their air. as I unscrewed the schrader / presta adapter air came rushing out. Noticed the valve core still in the adapter. Started taking that out when I noticed the broken piece also attached to the adapter.
  16. I’m of the opinion that not even one beer should be had before you drive, and in some countries this is the social norm. unfortunately we have a big problem in SA and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. You are seen as uncool and anti social if you don’t drink (I know because I’ve been on the receiving end of this all my life).
  17. entries are still open as far as I know
  18. I just tell them if I have to prove who I am, the need to prove who they are. had one person that I already suspected to be a scamster get very upset with me and hang up, as for the rest they usually comply in one way or a nother.
  19. Love my drops, and the modern shallower drops are much more comfy than those deep drops from the 80s. but then I’ve been riding since way before the golfers got into cycling.
  20. you can add car workshop staff to that list. Some of the stories I heard from them when I was a salesman, yoh!
  21. Its starting to sound more and more like those people that approach upcoming service providers. Photograph my wedding for free, I'll give you good exposure.
  22. even before Nicks post, just reading the opening post in this thread, I suspected this was the case.
  23. thats why its called a cuntry
  24. not perceived, law enforcement is mostly lacking, and when the guys are caught most times they get away with it with a little cooldrink money. Safety wise, well we know south africans, they are never to drunk to drive, plus accidents only happen to other people.
