  1. Another short answer NO . Look at second hand and if your budget is tight then here is one for a grand cheaper and also used on indoor trainer . https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/gravel-and-cyclocross-bikes/551207/avalanche-estrada
  2. Great initiative guys , Keep it going and it will grow and add value to your community .👍🚲
  3. In the 60/70 and 80's before the fancy 8 9 and 10 speeds with thin chains made of lighter material i waxed my chai as well . I used natural bees wax ( have a friend who is a bee farmer ) . I washed the chain in paraffin , let it drip dry and then had a tin can with a handle on and chuck in a lump of bees wax on the stove . The rolled up chain fitted precisely into the tin with hot wax on the stove . I left it in for about 5 minutes to really get into the rollers and then hung it up again wiping off with non lint cloth . That waxing would last at 3 to 4000 kms of riding ( 2 to 3 months ) . I still have the can and some bees wax .
  4. Thats a great looking resto job . Those are real old school center pull brakes . I still have a set in my old spares box .
  5. Those guys were the go to shop for cyclists in Johannesburg . My first racing bike was a DHC carbon steel bike . It did the job for many years untill i proofed to my dad that i was committed to cycling as a sport . It then became commuter to school and around the area not using my new RIH with Campag on it .
  6. I recently put Maxxis Aspens on and found them good rolling on tar and gravel . I do find that when cornering hard or going into a corner on tar or gravel that they give a initial slide before it catches again . It took a bit of getting use to but now know what to expect .
  7. Item advertised for R1000 .and the always asked question "Is that your best price " My answer "No i would like R1500 " Buyer then answers but its higher than advertised . Well read your question "BEST PRICE " dummy .
  8. Ive pushed a few weights in my life and enjoyed it but getting all prepped for weight training is a slog . I like the idea of the kettle ball as i can relate to that being a all round exercise on many muscle im not using on the bike . Im 85kg at 1.76m what weight ball should i look at . I have a strong upper body and good grip with my hands from always working with tools ( plumber by trade ). i see they come in various weights .
  9. Im retired and ride daily doing about 1000 km monthly . I do a lot of DIY exercise like gardening , restoring furniture , painting ( big house ) brick laying , roof repairs , vehicle servicing X2 and anything else that needs doing around my house . . I found doing some brick laying last week my hamstrings were a bit sensitive the following day when riding . Also when climbing up and down a ladder my legs are a bit niggle the following days . My question to those who dont go to gym or do specific other sports is this enough and good enough exercise to carry on with or should i be doing some specific exercises to complement my cycling .
  10. I had a slipping gear and changed cassette ( 12000 km) and chain ( .75 ) . The slipping was still there in the smaller sprockets not the bigger upper range on my big chain ring ( X2 ) Checked the chain ring and it was as good as a serrated pizza cutter . The teeth had worn to sharp points and if you put the power down the chain would ride on top of the chain ring momentarily . Changed the chain ring and the problem is solved . Look at the valley and the spacing between the teeth in pic #2
  11. This morning it was turn to" Pay Back " the tube i was given all those months ago . Along Benoni Rd just before Jatniel i saw a road cyclist standing next to his bike with the tube in his hand . I knew exactly what the problem was and asked if i could help . Yes he said he needed a tube that was his second puncture of the morning . Ever since my fateful day of two punctures i have carried two tubes with me . I helped him put it in and in no time we were on our way . He then got a call from his mates to say they were on their way to meet him in Bredel , so carried on my again . I hope he also pays it forward one day .
  12. It was the original Maxxis Crossmark that came on the bike when i bought it new 12/04/2018 . I do 10, to 12,000 km per year 80% on my MTB . During the week days i do a Urban Sprawl as we call it . Its a mixture of gravel , pavements , tar and off road . Weekends i do a full MTB ride in the Benoni /Bredel /Bapsfontein mealie fields and next to the railway track so no shortage of rough terrain and enough thorns and lose braches to nick a side wall .
  13. I put a new front tyre on today which had done close on 40,000 ( 4 years in march ) . Many punctures and mushrooms later it started to leak on old plugs which were drying out and the rubber was hard so not having good grip in wet conditions . The amount of slime caked up inside the tyre was amazing . I topped up this tyre about every 3 to 4 months so you can imagine how thick it was as i had never taken it off the rim . I weighed the new tyre and that was 620 grams , i then weighed the old with the slime on it and that was at a astonishing 1100grams . im not a serious racer or concerned about equipment weight but my question is does one attempt to clean out a tyre from time to time or just carry on topping up
  14. I have never looked at this thread until today . Im Discovery Comprehensive Classic plan and have never thought of chaining /accumulating Vitality points the reason being i only ride for health reasons and dont participate in races . I do between 900 to 1200 km per month and use my Garmin to record data . I have a HR monitor but dont use it . (should i) . Can i join Vitality and is it easy and worth while . Excuse my ignorance on the subject but im a chalk and black board user for all other written matters 😃

I use Namola https://www.namola.com/ which is an app on your cell phone . Its very effective and user friendly . Free as well . I had an accident and pressed the panic button . Got a call with in 5 seconds and then the cavalry arrived . 2 x ambulances , 2x tow trucks and 1x security response . I was in hospital an hour later .
  16. Most replies refer to the rail were it fits into the saddle and that is the point of creeking . Oil /grease or a Q20 type spray is a good starting point . Use a Silicon spray with saddle off upside down and spray it liberally into those three points and let it soak in for a hour or so . The silicon does not affect the integrity of the material the saddle is made of .
  17. I measured up the original bolt and headed off to a nut and bolt supplier . I found a shoulder bolt with the exact measurements for R25 . Original if available will be at least 10 times plus that price . I fitted it and unfortunately the noise is still there , I put the bike in my work stand and did some more intense investigating and the rear swing triangle bearing in the frame seems to be the culprit . Ill strip it out and go along to SKF and see if they have one off the shelf . All bearings have a model no and can generally be matched by a big bearing supplier .
  18. I received a email back from MoreCorp the SA importers of Silverback . It is confirmed there is no stock here or in Germany of this bolt and they are busy machining some for customers but im not one of them seeing as im last in the queue and they dont have a delivery date for it . Im going to take BaGearA's offer to machine one and get my bike healthy again . I must commend Silverback and MoreCorp for the fast response and honesty about the stock position as much as i am upset about it . . Many suppliers would have danced around with availability and delivery date i.
  19. I found the Importers details by emailing Silverback Germany . I got an answer within 30 min and am now awaiting further communication from them .
  20. The phone no supplied is not correct (021 3867777) . Do you perhaps have the no or email address you used to contact them .
  21. Appreciate that offer . I was going to approach a engineering company to do same if Silverback cant help .
  22. Thanks for advice . Ill contact them tomorrow . I trusted Cycle Lab to do that for me but the answer i got was not satisfactory
  23. I ride XTR 11 speed and use Q Bike dry lube . I wash my bike plus chain if i have had a dusty or muddy ride . I never take the chain off to wash it separately and then only used my Q bike Dry lube through a Lumbretta to dispense lube .i use a chain checker at least every second week . I am very anal about were the chain is positioned according to the front chain ring ( X2 ) to avoid the chain running at angles . My last chain gave me 7700 km . I keep a good record of the maintenance i do on my bikes but only do it myself . I have heard of riders taking bikes to LBS and are told to replace chains or cassettes that have barely done 1000 km .
  24. Bush is steel and perfect , Bolt is aluminum and worn on one side . Ill add photo later
  25. The top pivot bolt on the rear shock has some wear on it and it is noisy when riding off road . None of the LBS have stock and according to Cycle Lab the importers have no stock and cannot give a ETA on this spare . Surely this fixing point on the Fox Elite Float shock will have a standard size hole and some of the other brands of bikes will use same bolt . I
