  1. I concur with the mention of the caliper being put back without the spacers for the correct size rotor . Another reason a rotor can be sheared off is if you have a seized piston on one side and the rotor is being pushed out of alignment against the seized one on the opposite side . I personally had that on a front brake caliper . I remedied it as soon as got home . When braking i would notice the rotor being pushed over and the braking was not as normal with the lever also being a bit squishy/soft or in F 1 terms a long brake pedal .
  2. I use Enduro seal in my MTB tyres and have great results as in it always sealing when needed . I recently bought road tubes with sealant in ( on special at CL) and put them in and also tyre liners . On my Saturday morning ride i picked up a puncture and it dropped the pressure slightly ( i ride 6bar ) but still comfortable enough to carry on riding . At home i checked the tyre for offending puncture but saw nothing so just pumped up again to 6 bar and it is still good . I am wanting to go tubeless on the road so my question is . 1) do i need special rims or can i just use rim tape and a good gorilla tape over that . 2) do i need tubeless ready tyres as with MTB tyres 3) how much sealant do i put in .

    Vuelta 2022

Louis just didn't have the legs again today to close that gap on Hindley to add a top ten finish to his WT grand tour finishes . Great respect to our boy he kept the flag flying .

  6. I posted about a repair i did on a MTB tyre that had a sidewall tear . I used shaved rubber from an old tyre mixed that into the super glue and forced it into the tear , i then also put a motor vehicle tube patch on the inside . This was a brand new tyre and it happened on its first ride . The tear never opened , lost air ( i ride tubeless ) and i got 5000 km out of that tyre .
  7. A mate of mine built a battery pack with lithium batteries he bought from a local importer .Ill get the info for you . Ok i thought you wanted to build it yourself . Its a similar motor in wheel on that bike he has . Its a 36v pack . If you go for Litium batteries you can get those from https://www.electromannsa.com/collections/vehicle-accessories?page=19

  9. Reading all the war stories about the Trans Bavians and its bad weather reminded me of this Irishman touring the world on his bike . I follow him on FB and love reading the posts he puts up . https://www.facebook.com/tomasworldcycle
  10. I did the same for my gardener by upgrading his Super market special . i trued and tightened up both wheels when he got the bike . Reset the brakes (Rim type ) and gears . They normally have a 3 X upfront which i then set so only the big and 2nd ring were available ( Gauteng no hills ) When the tires were shot i got a pair road commuter tires (Slick ) and tubes with removable valve cores and put Enduro slime in . He has had punctures but they seal and he is able to ride on home or to work . Chain and cluster finally gave in and we did cheapish chain and cluster (7 speed ) upgrade . He commutes 25 km daily which he has done for 4 years plus with a R1500 supermarket special and about R1000 worth of upgrade and maintenance that equates to about R50 transport per month as apposed R50 taxi fare daily (R1000 monthly )

  12. You made my day . I love stringing these guys along . I've sent them to addresses in my area were no one is home and they have dogs roaming the property .
  13. Agreed . Some real insight to the way he approaches and races a The Tour .
  14. The question of the day is "will Louis SD give him the right advice and what should it be " Lets hear from the couch SD 's
  15. Absolutely , he is so accurate on those bends at hitting the apex and then accelerating. A typical MTB rider strategy . The next two days with mountain top finishes will be the decider . I just hope Main Cheese doesn't chase for the KOM but rather cement his GC position as low down as possible. Im also a big JV supporter so lets see if their end game plays out .
  16. I had a fall in the 1990's and had the same dislocation on my right shoulder . When i saw the surgeon the following day he was adamant about the surgery route . It was a success as i have never had a days pain or further problems from the shoulder . The following weeks of physio and restraint are important to a successful op like that , i was told to treat it as a marathon and not a sprint to recovery . I cycled and swam in those years and never regretted having the surgery .
  17. Many of us have had accidents and ended up using crutches . In most cases after use they get put into a cupboard for the next time ( hopefully not ) or passed onto family or friends that may need them. The grips that are on these crutches are made of cheap rubber or foam and will be perished or dry when you pass them on . I enquired about buying grips from the pharmacies and orthopedic suppliers and was told , bring in the one you have so that we can match the grips and ORDER for you or in some cases i was told you cant get replacements , buy a new pair of crutches . I had just bought a new pair of Titan Silicon grips . The crutch handles are a slightly thicker than MTB bars so a bit more effort is required to get them on . You can use aerosol deodorant, silicon spray or dishwashing liquid on the inside of the grips to ease them on . I know these grips will be on these crutches for many years a usable again by the next person . These are crutches my wife use 8 years ago and now is having a knee replacement and needs them again .
  18. Go to your LBS and get a cardboard bike box from them . They usually put all the polystyrene and other usable padding in the box for use later . They are designed and manufactured strong for transport . I recently sent a bike local using a cardboard bike box and fitted everything in including extras and nothing got damaged . Our local courier industry is not known for being careful with parcels .
  19. I had a puncture on Atlas rd on Saturday morning . While fixing it every cyclist who rode past asked if I was ok or if i needed help ( i didn't realize I looked so useless LOL ) Thanks to all those who asked or recognized my "Cranky Old Bastard Jersey " and offered help . I will never ride past a stranded cyclist without offering assistance .
  20. A update on this issue . After finding out that there are no bolt /bearing and bush kits available in SA i messaged Silverback themselves and got a prompt reply from Cycle Lab ( Daniel Amos ) who informed me that those kits are in short supply world wide and CL is now busy having the bolt kits made locally out of stainless steel . The bushes he informed me were available from a company called Igus ( he also gave me specs and part number. ) I collected the bushes last week and the bolt set today and rebuilt the suspension . A big thanks to Kyle and Daniel from CL who arranged this and kept me in the loop as what is going on . You guys are tops . Pc below is of the beautifully CNC machined bolts .
  21. Building and maintaining your own bikes is a good pastime . The experience you gain from building a bike is invaluable for maintenance and on the trail repairs when needed . That's good looking Kouta project even with mismatched equipment on it .
  22. I have just read the post from the first post and must agree with most that following a good rehab protocol and patients is the key to getting back on the bike quicker . In my 40 I fell and broke my shoulder ( top bone ) and had it pinned and also had a few weeks off bike but a lot of rehab exercise to do as given by the physio . Two and a half years ago i fell and broke my femur and had a hip replacement and again the rehab and patients was vital to getting back on the bike . Follow your physios advice and do the prescribed exercises to a quicker recovery . Good luck and a healthy recovery .
  23. My phone is only 6mm will that be enough , im also afraid it might get damaged .
  24. Hi Chris , If i was hanging on to the back of a tandem through Banaero park yes it was . Those two were shoving it .
  25. What great back up from the admin . Got it all sorted and am back on track thanks Nick .
