  1. read an article where novices was put on training program. Apparently there results improved 100% over a period of 8 weeks. When they were asked to stop training the and tested after 4 weeks they had lost all there gains. On the other hand they tested pro's that stopped training for 3 months and found they only lost 50% of their fitness. can not remember where I read this though. But it tell you if you have been fit for longer it will stay with you for longer.
  2. Will be in PTA 24 March any road races taking place?

    Bloemfontein OFM

It is 4 November 2012. Very well organised better than Amashova, although not at the sea, Small but good expo. Much safer than the Argus big bunches, as the bunches here around 250 per group.
  4. Well I am 85 kg but since I did 3h06min nobody is interested in my data anyway, not even me as I do not have powermeter.
  5. Must say I have been thinking about it but two years ago was almost blown of going around the corners down to Campsbay, and that was not with deep sections. Now I say if I stay within the bunch is it worth the risk, I have done races in strong winds with deep sections it is just the gusts that can take you by surprise. Think of taking safe option.
  6. All I want to know is should I bring my deepsections down to capetown? Do not want to be blown into the see around campsbay.
  7. Can you send to me as well , might be doing this with my wife before my event on Sunday, but she does not want a difficult route.

    Heart Rate

I geuss you can see it does not really mean anything and must say I would like to see yourcadence when your heartrate is 190. Also you will not really be going uphill fast if heartrate is 100.
  9. Had a quick look at last years times, Winner A was 2min 53 secs faster than VB. I guess they caugt the VB and then Gary won the sprint , With so many of VA moving to A I guess A will catch up. We must then try to hold them off untill Smitswinkel. The Elite ladies normally start slowly and tactically but do not think so this year.
  10. If that was the case for the front group maybe, my first year in VB and will have to see, This year VB,VM& elite ladies in one group. I am sure the front bunch will be fast.
  11. Hi was in K last year and we did not achieve sub 3 as we got caught up in groups before us at Smitswinkel and got trapped in bunches as I lost concentration and later realised that we slowed down to the group that was caughts speed, this costs us at least five minutes on our time.
  12. I must say I am a roady and not a pig so do not like generalisation, there was 5600 people on the road and you saw seven littering. However I ask why you would use this stuff , it gives 100 calories, racing I use 1000 calories an hour so what is the use of these GU sachets anyway?
  13. Have had issues like this before, especially races in Free state. In past mailed them and they do eventually put them up. Waiting for two races currently as well.
  14. Agree with this have been in bunches where we catch the ladies, but catching the leading VB bunch is a different matter. I am starting VB in the Argus, You(OP) in B? should I be waiting for you to pass?
  15. Come cycle in the Free state , you have the chance to start with the Elites, so if you can keep up you are in for a sprint to the line.
  16. Yes did Emperors in 2H47 last year and got a K seeding. You should add around 30 min to your time for the Argus.
  17. Same here I was training and racing seeding races to get at least D Hoping for C or B but now in VB at 06:24. Do not know if I should fall back to B or just try to hang on and off course 4 weeks of maximium effort training up to argus.
  18. Wow ! we have a road race in bloemfontein on 21 January, The fact that it is only advertised from today does not even bother me as we now at least have something. Entry forms should be at cycle shops according to my source. Hopefully we will see you Bloem cyclist at Sunnyhill Saturday.
  19. Agree I do the 100km races , pre hydrate and drink 250-500ml during the race. Sometimes only one or two sips.
  20. See on National calender there is quite a few Vortex challenges. Will they all be in this area. Is it a series?
  21. Hi , I am thinking of buying a new pair of road shoes. Currently have pair with Nylon /Fibreglass sole. Is Carbon really better, how much energy is really lost due to flex, I have googled but can not really find any specific data where it shoes that carbon is better. Anyone on the hub knows where to get some data or advice.
  22. Training Plan, Deep section wheels.
  23. I agree, have you looked at the energy anyway, If i remember it is something like 100 calories which is burned of in 8 minutes while racing so can not see that they are really anything else than marketing gimmic. I do al may 100-120 km races with one bottle and a Oats energy bar every hour.
  24. I agree , What do the people pay to spend an hour on a spinning bike at R300 per month for 20 times gives us R20 . I wish we could have a place like this in Bloemwhere you do not have to worry about traffic etc.
