  1. out of interest, is carbon made from raw oil somehow (I really dont know!)??? surely muscle absorbs vibration pretty well as fat, they are both relatively 'soft' compared to carbon/ steel??
  2. enjoy the trip in traffic, followed by the salesman's disinterested stare followed by a comment like "but she never asked what cleat type" or "what kind of a man sends his wife out to do his bicycle shopping?"
  3. my 'carguard' with yellow viz vest didn't ask for anything. I gave him the change in my ashtray - about R3 he was grateful
  4. Hi Wolverine, I opened this post on page two with the pic of the damage - ouch. when I saw it two things struck me: 1. Oom H and his rantings about carbon and Campy.. 2. How many thousands of Ks that chain had done - especially when you have obviously spent a small fortune on the bike (Record). I replaced my ultegra chain when i serviced my bike two weeks ago. anyway, hope insurance pays out promptly and the damage is fixed quick.
  5. haha, to put this in perspective compare the power that will rip the wings off an aeroplane VS the power that a bicyclist will produce... its ridiculous. all this science is fine, just largely irrellevant to cycling.
  6. Normally on SS entries, there is an option to get your number couriered for R70... which I think is ridiculous for a small race where I can just pick up my number on the day of the race. But for 94.7 where getting your number is going to take 3 hrs i think this would be a good idea as an entry option, I dont even care if they make a profit which could go to charity on the courier fee. this would also mean that the guys that pick up numbers are the ones that actually have time OR want to see the expo (and they would have less crowds to deal with).
  7. on the cyclechallenge site? http://www.cyclechallenge.co.za/reg_expo.asp
  8. I agree, all local, clun, provincial sport make that 'quota' based. at least all unions. teams have the same restrictions. Ones that 'develop' players better will be at less of a disadvantage. These changes will then trickle down (or up) to the national level where the coach will have blacks in the team purely on skill. This will always put the quota system to rest, because in 3 months time after firing, political pressure Stofile will change his mind!
  9. Aaah, Andrew, good to hear the voice of reason. The big problem isn't that jumping reds (under the right circumstances) is dangerous - it definitely isn't. The problem is the growing problem of roadrage, aggresion on the roads and how this effects cyclists. Jumping red robots annoys some drivers who are stuck behind the robot. These are the same drivers that are annoyed by taxis overtaking on the pavement. They are also annoyed by cyclists riding in huge bunches, cyclists using hand gestures, cyclists swearing, throwing water bottles, cyclists littering etc etc. Cyclists need to improve there attitude in general, especially the 'pack' mentality when 5+ guys are riding together.
  10. anybody know if there is a new website? www.kyalamigrandprixentertainment.co.za/ doesn't seem tp work, alternately, is the track open tomorrow morning?
  11. Was that after he realised that he had lost the sale of the Record cranks to you then? I love my compact cranks, and only sometimes wish I had a 53 upfront when I am charging with the elites in the last few kilometres at 60+km/h...... oh sorry that was somebody else I was confusing myself with.
  12. sunday rain with heavy rain, 84km at a realllllly slow pace, but it included 2x krugersdorp hill which was good training at least.
  13. A - 1100 (detour) 94.7 - 1190 jock - 1290 - 2006
  14. I'm intrigued after seeing you hmm, lowaracer, recumbant? bike thing on the dead steel post. Please let us have some more info? ie do you race it, if so do you start with tandems, how fast does it go on the flat (no wind) - compared to a normal bike, is riding it very different to a road bike (muscles used). easy to balance steer? crashes? visibility in traffic/ training etc etc or a link to a website. thx
  15. Steve, I'm afraid its a racing track; its one way; there is a 'racing line'; there are no cars; it isn't a public road; there are no stopstreets/ robots/ speed limits etc etc etc. Leave Wed PM to the beginners. Hopefully there wont be rain this afternoon, and I'll see you there.
  16. Solo why would a 'distribution' company design carbon bicycles??? I am not saying that raleigh is the best bike but what you are saying is like: "I took my BSc and went for a job interview at Forsdicks BMW, they told me I was overqualified for the job. Therefore BMW is a crap car coz I'm too good to design one"...
  17. How long ago was everybody slagging off 'greyowl' for insisting on cash in hand.
  18. Well the power-fundis will tell you to throw it away and get an SRM, I have found mine very useful for measuring and testing at how hard I can ride. eg A couple of years ago (when I was still fit) I would take 170 BPM as being the red zone and knew that if I hung around this level long I would blow. Now after trial and error I know that I can keep my HR between 168-175 for a long time... eg Cradle Classic my ave HR for the last hour was 172. if I had been scared of 'blowing' I would have completed the race a lot slower.
  19. My Zipp 808s, or if they dont get delivered in time, the only wheels I have. santa, are you listening?
  20. SA 15 - Poms 9... No tries, lots of kicking,
  21. retiling the house if there is any money left over from the car sale, also new bathroom fittings
