  1. you do get really expensive alu. bikes that will cost more than budget carbon... but you shouldn't be worrieng about wasting this amount of money if you are a beginner. what are you looking at spending?
  2. how many cycling deaths have been reported on the Hub this year.. 10.. 20? I haven't been counting. How many of these have been wearing a helmet.. all of them probably. if you want to be completely safe while cycling... dont cycle. if you want to be a responsible cyclist, get a good life/disability policy.
  3. i cant see the advantage of a flat bar... is it the wider position for the arms? or having the brakes on top so you can always have two fingers hovering over each brake lever?
  4. the only negative effect is lack of time!
  5. ok, i see. It wont work though as the seeding indexes used are the best single seeding for a rider and are generally done on flat races with lots of wheelsucking... eg group F worst rider will do 2:53:30, but only 29 out of 300+ riders got that time. But I like your thinking, it means i can break 3hours!
  6. what is 'estimated race time'? best time in the group or average?
  7. I also claimed through outsurance. i got a call from one of the big bike shops that couldn't replace my bike (no longer available) but offered me a similar giant, after i checked the specs i complained that they were inferior (basicly 105 instead of ultegra). The ultegra specced Giant was worth a lot more than my bike was insured. So they paid me out the sum insured! so... insist cyclelab gives you the brand/spec etc that you had... if they cant do it outsurance will pay you out the R30k
  8. How about Car:Bike:House ratio? i think this should be 1:10:100, ie new 15k bottom of the range carbon new 150k polo new 1500k house for the true cycling nut its probably 1:1:0 new 150k dogma new 150k polo no house, rent or live with parents
  9. funny? sad? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/87229-racism-on-the-hub/page__st__80
  10. much to many people, the swim was bedlam, the organisers need to appreciate that and have start groups! wind was amazing, i did 78km/h one way and came back around 12km/h running in the rain was
  11. What tax will be applied on CRC purchases, for a full bicycle? I assume that VAT will be added too? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=52638
  12. 12 steps backwards, and the 'top of the range' model has ultegra/ shimano wheels etc.. what happened to the curves? zipp wheels? DA?? maybe they have given up on competing with 'better' brands and will only compete with entry level carbon, depends on their pricing if the Blade 10 is priced really well (under R18k) it will sell well.
  13. Get the Bianchi: The C2C has a more upright, relaxed geometry - better for longer rides, audax comfort. Italian heritage R20k for a new Bianchi is a fantastic price instant repect (whereas the silverback sits around the raleigh mark!) Get the Kansas: cheaper slightly better groupset lighter (i'm guessing!) you'll do the argus quicker on this bike!
  14. HEAR, HEAR, Once Waterfall estate is complete they will be forced to do this.. or come up with a radical change to the route.
  15. for servicing i would stick with dunkeld cycles, linden also is very good. morningside didn't impress me but maybe they had a bad day, (thats for a road bike)
  16. I think any reputable company would be reluctant to tarnish their image by producing any sort of nonsense product like these powerbalance bands.... unless they are making HUGE profits with it.
  17. Livestrong does make the list... not quite for the right reasons though... "The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), founded by the champion bicyclist and cancer survivor of the same name, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. Wouldn’t you think a charity that receives massive publicity for having one of the most popular causes and most admired celebrities as the face of the organization would be able to easily raise lots of money? Unfortunately this is not the case. LAF spent as much as $45 to raise each $100, exceeding AIP’s 35% recommended fundraising ceiling by a significant margin. While LAF had difficulty raising contributions efficiently, it did prove to be a savvy merchandise marketer. LAF sold over $24 million in merchandise, including the ubiquitous yellow “LIVESTRONG” wristband, as well as clothing, sports gear and even dog leashes. Yet after spending $10 million in solicitation costs, the group brought in only $22 million in contributions, according to AIP’s analysis of LAF’s 2005 financial statements."
  18. 'mobile crushers'??? where did you get that? anyway, RIP to the cyclist
  19. i seem to get an average of 169 to 171 for races around 3 hours, which is 85 to 88% for me, most of the 'effort' goes into hanging onto the pack and not getting dropped , which is why my ave HR is higher than on a clubride or in a spinning class!
  20. haha, ok its very expensive but a lot cheaper than the competition... if its as good as them!

  22. the 36 bpm looks like a glitch as it 'plummeted' to that level, what was the average for the night... I'm amazed that sleep is sucjh hard work!
  23. excepting they're French and not Italian! I dont like the new Look's 'fractured' top tube design, and the Time top tubes look like they melted in the sun (Felt like), hmm maybe i'm just jealous
