  1. Very nice Gaz. Wish you many happy miles and lots of victories on the new frame!
  2. This is really sad! R.I.P Mark, and condolences to Kurt and the rest of his family.
  3. My first (mountain) bike was a Diamond Back Ascent, 1994 model in Candy Red. It was kitted with a full Shimano 7sp STX groupset, and mostly Avenir branded components. It had a rigid chromoly fork to go with the Tange cr-mo steel frame. Cost my dad a whole R2499 back then, and made me the happiest 13 year old kid in the world! Man I loved that bike, i used to ride everywhere, with my best mate Dave. I even fitted a Topeak pannier rack and panniers to it and then we used it to get cash delivering the newspaper. I remember the day i snapped the chainstay on a small jump in the local park, but luckily after a few weeks my LBS managed to get the frame replaced under warrantee. They sent me the titanium coloured 1995 model, and we fitted a Manitou Mach 5 Comp fork to the bike at the same time. I really wanted a Manitou 3, but it really was way out of my budget and at the time cost the same as the whole bike did! Had the bike till 2003 when i got back from London, but then I brough home a brand new Cannondale mountain bike, so my Diamond Back was never ridden by me again. I also found cracks all over the frame, so i decided to toss it. Still have a box somewhere full of old used 7speed STX and LX parts, so if anyonw is looking for bits from that era, just drop me a line.

  5. Ultimates or UItra?? My Bora Ultra wheels need no more maintenance than any other wheelset that i own. I dont ride then that often, as they are used purley for racing, so maintenance is minimal. But having said that every part of your bike requires routine maintenance, and wheels are no different. It really depends on how much they are used and in what conditions (wet etc) they are used. If you have the ceramic bearings then could need slightly more maintenance, as i have heard the bearings dont last very long. Just ride and enjoy the wheels. If they feel rough when spinning, or there is play in the hub, or a loose spoke then worry about them. But from my experience they are a very robust wheelset, and will last you a long time if you keep them clean and ride them on good roads.
  6. Goes for around R12k locally if im not mistaken! But have a look on E-Bay etc, you will find them for far less in the states.
  7. Ive got one, got it in 1992 with my M525 pedals. Still use those pedals daily, the bearings are as smooth as ever Give me a shout if you want to use it, Im in the Bedfordview / Sandton area of JHB.
  8. Have to agree, well done Admin! The new site looks and feels great. Now i just have to find the time to use it.....
  9. They are not dodgy at all. I have ordered many things from Kiwi and i know of at least 5 other hubbers that have as well, and each of us have had great service. Have you tried sending him a PM?
  10. Terrible news, my condolences to the family.

  13. I went for the EC70 for a number of reasons, mainly because the the EA was a 44cm, and my other bikes i ride 42, so i wanted them to be the same. Secondly the EA bar was very harsh on my hands, the alu transmitted all the vibrations from the road into my hands, and often on my rides my hands would start hurting. This never happned with my other Easton bar, (EC90 SLX?) so i decided my next bar would have to be carbon. So far it seems to have worked, and the two rides i have tested them on my hands have not got sore / tired at all. And lastly the EC bars have got a a unique shape (like the old EC90 bars) which makes riding / sprinting in the drops very comfortable. Hope that helps you in making up your mind. BTW Westdene has a set of 44cm EC70 Aero bars, or at least they did last week. I seem to remember the price was around R1700, but i may be mistaken. Give them a call. (My bars from CRC cost me R1040 landed!)
  14. Ive got a spare EA70 in 44cm, but its not aero. Took it off my bike on Wednesday and replaced it with a EC70 aero that i got from CRC. Let me know if you would be interested in it?
  15. What bars are you looking for? EA or EC and what width?
  16. The three bikes ive had over the last 5 years...
  17. Ive got the Scandium Vertex Team, so its good to know that they have great service when it comes to warranties.
  18. What was wrong with the original two that caused a warrantee replacment?

  20. Johan, you can have my Fox F100 RL. It needs another service, and I need the leak fixed, as it's been leaking oil since we serviced it last. Please let me know... Zaskar2010-02-04 03:43:10
  21. Found some of these pics the other day while browsing an Adventure Rider forum. Taken in last year on a trip in Canada. I know its not mountainbiking, but it still is two wheeled riding. And imagine the singletrack and the awesome trails that must exist out there for moutainbiking...
  22. Its like Pick n Pay, but a 24hr version. We used to shop there at all hours, it was awesome doing your groceries at 4am after a night out!
  23. Looks Great Kiwi!! Any idea yet on pricing? (PS - Did you ever get any news on those new model Lynskey Titanium On-One frames?)
