  1. Well I suppose you may not be an old fart. At 47 I think I am in the old farts age group anyway .
  2. I am in wave 3 (old farts) think its 13h15. Normally I would do this in about 3hrs without much fuss. Perhaps if I am not 100% I will take it easy and watch the heart rate but I suppose best not take any chances I dont want to miss Oct 7 at Midmar.
  3. I will be there family kids the whole 9 yards. BUT I got flu at the moment so may not be racing. If I am not better by the weekend I'll support the beer tent
  4. and I suppose when you wear a wetsuit you DONT look like a seal ?
  5. I always thought the length of the crank arms required was dependent on the size of your frame and your personal body geometry. 175mm seems to be the norm for most people. I never really did quite understand how a mere 2.5mm could make any difference at all.
  6. maybe we can get him to sort out the hippo at heia safari once and for all
  7. Meat free Monday's in my house is a complete no no. Its more like a carnivore celebration ... roast pork, roast beef ...
  8. Try some magnesium supplement. It works for me. I only ever get calf cramps kicking off the wall in the pool. Never been able to explain it. I can cycle and run for hours never a problem put me in a pool and theres an issue.
  9. its the claw abandon canoe
  10. why dont you just change the rear cassette to a 11-23 instead. what size cassette do you currently have ?
  11. What about Sharks ? Someone said to me if you managed to escape off the island you would'nt get far anyway cause the sharks would get you.
  12. I have done 2 swims in the last month so with Bela Bela next week I decided to make sure I am still able. I did 1500m in 36 minutes yesterday which included a few short pauses to adjust my cap and googles, catch my breath and ogle the hot babe in the lane next to me. According to my pool mate watch my average stroke count was 10 which in a 25m pool I think is good. Point is I could have done another 1500m quite easily and probably in an shorter time.
  13. I would go for this but insurance got to give you a discount on the premium first 50/50 I reckon would be fair or 0/100 even better
  14. Crazy days ... think I will suspend any further purchases on the Hub for a while ...
  15. I have built 2 complete bicycles from scratch, MTB and Roadie, with items purchased soley from Hubbers. I have a 3rd (TT) build in progress. I never ever had any issues with a single purchase from anyone on the Hub. So I suppose the question now is just how much of the 2.5 bicycles I own are actually from stolen bicycles ?
  16. I posted this on the other thread discussing Emmerentia as well. We might want the 2 threads combined. I sent the Dabs canoe club an email yesterday asking if it was ok to swim at Emmerentia and what if any rules there were. The answer was as follows "Hi Hans - no restrictions from our side. Please just stay out of the path of any / all craft training on the water. Good luck. Bill". Would still be nice to know what if any etiquette there is to follow i.e. swimming in the opposite direction to canoeists and on which side of the buoys do you swim etc etc So having said that I think I will go down to the canoe club this Saturday and have a swim session. Anyone else interested ? say for about 9am.

  18. Quick question. Is it ok to just pitch and swim at Emmerentia ? is there a dedicated swim area and rules which need to be adhered to ?
  19. I get claustrophobic when I put the damn thing on. The last time I had it on I had a panic attack about 50m into the swim NOT cool. So reckon I got to try it out this weekend.
  20. Well I see the good folks are all starting to worry about Bela Bela 5150. Winter has not been kind. Went cycling this morning with the Ranburg - Sandton crowd the temperature varied between 1.5 and 6 degrees. Needless to say I am totally useless in the cold and managed a modest 26km/h average speed and got blown off the back of the pack at some point in the ride. As for swimming ja nee is all I can say. But I definitely think its a good idea to have at least 1 or 2 practise sessions in the wetsuit before 5150. Just in case you are wondering last year I did the swim in a normal tri suit no wetsuit and it was FRIKKEN cold. This year my wave starts at 13h15 so hopefully me and my newly acquired wetsuit can do better than last year. I would not worry about the swim too much though its possible to actually walk the swim if need be the water level is very low and a whole bunch of guys did a funny waddle come swim thing.
  21. Go straight to the cops.
  22. As runner, cyclist (MTB and roadie), motorcyclist etc I always try to be careful and watchful on the road. The other day I decided to go to work by car which does not happen very often. I managed to reverse into an old dude on a scooter who was behind me while trying to go around a taxi who decided it was a great idea to drop off passengers in the middle of William Nicol road. Must admit I felt like a real CHOP. Fortunately the old dude and his scooter sustained only minor scratches. My advice when out on the road is too wear bright clearly visible clothing, make sure your lights are ON, eyes and ears are OPEN and tantrums and middle finger tucked away !! Now where is that bloody taxi I am gonna murder that ....
  23. I'm doing 5150 on the 25th so gonna give this a miss this year. but yes at the moment with winter coming to an end and not much cycling done up to now anything like this is gonna be hard and painful work
  24. Chocolate flavor is good. Just mix with warm water mix thoroughly with spoon for a few secs and slurp away
  25. I found this on news24 http://www.health24.com/fitness/Specific_Sports/16-2175-2186-2277,67146.asp I quote "Swimmers actually shave to remove the layer of dead skin cells on the surface of the epidermis. After the removal of the dead skin cells, the skin becomes more sensitive and the swimmer then has a heightened “water sense”. Some professional swimmers are known to shave their hands and feet." So next time someone asks why you shave your legs you will actually have a half decent response
